Two double cheeseburgers and a soda from the value meal runs about $4. I usually skip the soda, so $3. We had an exchange student from France...showed him 4 of us could eat and have change from a 20.
IMHO the new look is Pure-T UGLY.
What is it with the new fad for painting businesses different shades of baby-poop brown?
And as you pointed out, they designed out most of their singular look that made a McDonalds instantly recognizable.
I still like cheeseburgers and fries. I also like their McCafe items.
I used to work for a supplier to McDonalds. MCD’s food safety standards are super-high.
I have no problem with them - and if at a place where several fast foods are on offer, I will go to MCD.
I think announcing their death is a bit premature.
Why would I go to McDonald’s when I can go to Whataburger and get a real hamburger? The only time we ever set foot in a McDonald’s is so that my kiddos can take a potty break.
I think the problem is they oversold franchises, there quality went down and there 10 times more choices of places to eat. when I was a kid going to a place like mc Donald’s happened only when we were traveling or a special occasion. I am sure that is the case with most of my generation. people eat out a lot more now and because of that they are more likely to choose something else besides mc donalds. years ago when I was a kid there was not that much choice of burger joints.
In and Out. I’ve been eating there for over 50 Years and the only thing I’ve had a problem with is the Fries getting cold by the time I got Home to eat them.
Even if you Nuke them, they are not the same as when they are first served. If you do take them Home and have some Bob’s Blue Cheese Dressing, dip the Fries in it and enjoy.
Absolutely magical.
Now I just eat them there instead. The Double Double is one of the Best so called Fast Food Burgers out there.
They are also cheaper than Five Guys. Darn, now I’m hungry.
Rush was referring to the original McDonalds, owned by the brothers McDonald, that Kroc eventually bought out. That chain was begun in CA.
I can’t say the food was ever particularly stellar in all those fast-food joints, several decades back, when the franchises still seemed fairly new. But the places always seemed clean. And the teen employees often wore their ‘company’ uniforms and hats and such. It just looked neat and professional, the whole presentation.
Nowadays, these places just seem nasty. Dirty floors, smudges all over the doors, trashy-looking employees and equally trashy-looking customers. Self-serve drink machines, which make a mess everywhere. I went to a local Taco Bell about six months ago, and the young guy taking my order had a tattoo of a spider on a spiderweb running up and down his throat. Gross. There’s just a scuzzy third-world ambiance to everything now. It’s an immediate appetite-killer.
It’s made me totally disinclined to ever stop at fast-food places these days, and indeed I rarely ever do anymore. Usually just when I’m on a road-trip and particularly pressed for time. Maybe two or three times a year.
You are on to something. Time has marched on.
When I was a kid the nearest McD’s was over 25 minutes away in the next town. It was something to do with the family on a Friday night without dropping big cash.
Totally different world today.
McDonalds is terrible - the first thing they need to do is get rid of the heat trays where they store their pre-cooked burgers. It turns them into dry tasteless garbage.
Missed my chance to try one while I stayed at a hotel in Torrance, CA in the 1990’s. Across the 405 and down just a bit, as I recall.
Well, maybe some day.
“you go through a McDonalds drive through and you gotta either speak spanish or gheto ebonics.”
You denigrate the use of Spanish yet are thinking of retiring to Costa Rica? LOL
I’ve noticed that too. More often than not they forget something. There really isn’t time to make sure everything’s there, even if it’s shown on the receipt. But every so often, every blue moon, you open the sack(s) and, whoa ... Jackpot!
We got a family of six’s meals by mistake!
Great, now I feel guilty. Unless you live in S.CA., I don’t think you could use the Coupons anyway. They used to mail out coupons all the time, but it’s been years. Cheap SOB’s.
I promise to remember your Post when I eat them if that helps. Two McMuffins and Coffee, yummy...
BTW - Am I the only one that likes those little Sausage and Egg Burritos they have? I think they are prepackaged and Nuked, but I really enjoy them with their Picante Sauce.
Actually its worse than that. I teach a naturalization class to people preparing to take the citizenship test. Teach US history and civics. I got nothing against spanish speaking people in general. Just can’t stand it when they can’t understand you, or speak enough good english to be understood over a speakerphone.
Great pic! Damn, what a time in America huh?!
Too bad, they are yummy.
Ever had a Tommy’s Burger? Another S. CA. institution.
I like the Burgers but love the Chili Tamales.
This is an interesting take.
Think about the popular, up and coming, burger joints.
In N Out, Five Guys, Shake Shack.
Do they have Happy Meals with yogurt and apple juice? Do they have Veggie Burgers? Do they have Salads and Yogurt Parfaits?
I don’t think so. Burgers, Fries, Sodas, Shakes, right?
And they are doing well.
No one is chasing them with a rolling pin.
