Rick's made some terrible mistakes, gotten good people killed, and pissed off people who could've been allies.
That's Rick. He's no superman. He never asked to be. He's a small-town sheriff with, at best, a high school education. Leadership was a role that was thrust upon him and he's learning on the fly.
That's what makes his character so compelling. He's an everyman. If he always made the right decisions and always did what was good, it wouldn't be real.
As far as his fascism is concerned, Rick only cares for the survival of his family. Nothing else matters. He can't save everyone. He has nothing but contempt for the Alexandrians who he views as soft, privileged to essentially ride out the Zombie Apocalypse in comfort while his "tribe" was scavenging for dog food. He's certainly not going to let any of them call the shots.

Bump to all of that. Rick can get dark---he HAS---but he'll never be evil. The entire group is damaged, and understandably so.
