Companies that are founded from next year onward plus a range of sectors of the Greek economy will only be able to accept payment via debit or credit card, according to a plan being drawn up by the government as a means of stamping out tax evasion.

The plan, which has yet to receive the final approval from the country’s lenders, foresees all new companies having to be equipped with point of sale (POS) terminals that can accept credit and debit cards. The same will apply to numerous professions. These will include doctors, lawyers, electricians and plumbers, which are all professions where tax evasion is thought to be rife.

It will also be compulsory for companies in some parts of Greece, starting with areas that rely on tourism, to start accepting card payments.

In this case what happens to cash, actual cash, meaning paper money currency and coins????

In this case all of our money will need to be whatever a computer report at a bank says we have.

When all your money is just bits on someone’s computer it is a simple thing for the banksters and governing criminals who control the computers to just help themselves to your stash.

I expect if they try this here, that it will be sold as a policy to fight crime. We will be told that drug dealers and other assorted criminals deal with briefcases full of cash, and that if cash is phased out, it will put the criminals out of business.

I.don’t believe it will put criminals out of business but I believe a shift to a debit card/credit card only economy will be sold to us that way.

This could even impact obamacare. In that, all of your spending will be in a giant database. You may be questioned as to how many times you went to McDonald’s last month, and be told to cut back. Ditto visits to.liquor stores, or any other activity deemed to be unhealthy by our bureaucrats.

I believe this Is a slippery slope.

I hit post too soon. I wanted to mention that in obamacare there are plans for wellness programs and incentives for same. So under the terms of a wellness regimen, you may be told you can’t get fast food or buy cigs or liquor or God knows what else.

If everything you spend money on is in the database, then get ready for data mining to sift out your “improper” choices.

That will come but the immediate utility of a cashless society is forced bail-ins for when the banksters, having given themselves titanic bonuses, have run their institutions into the ground and need your money to make them whole again. Effectively, it is just a giant suction hose the banksters can apply to your savings whenever they feel the urge.

This is a first step in an attempt to eliminate the Grey Economy. The only economies that are working in my area right now are the Black Market in drugs and The Grey Economy in Cash only businesses without a storefront.

Lots of bartering and cash only deals are done in the local gathering spots like farmers markets and flea markets etc. Eliminate Cash and that market will shrivel up until someone comes up with an alternative form of non-digital currency.

They did it to themselves.

Of course, new forms of graft will be found quickly.

Or you aren’t ALLOWED to spend money where they won’t let you.

Exactly. How are they going to enforce something like that here unless they get rid of cash completely?

Millenials and Generation Z make their personal behavior patterns public on Twitter and Instagram with LBS on phones they carry everywhere.

They use Paypal, Apple Pay, etc. for almost all their transactions.

They don't own much - they rent everything: they lease apartments and cars, they finance their wardrobes and furniture, they rent music and entertainment through Netflix and iTunes.

People used to worry about chips being put in them, or constant video surveillance, their emails being read, etc.

Now people film themselves on Periscope, carry a tracking device as a fashion statement, and instead of emails they send messages on public social media.

Privacy is not a priority anymore.

I’m surprised Greece has not done this a long time ago...

The Greeks are famous for avoiding taxes..

That a large part of their financial disfunction...

Nobody pays taxes.
