So do I, but Cruz ain't got the cash. And you know that as well as I.
Actually, he does have the cash. He raised $12 million in hard miney in just the last three months, which is right in the middle of the time when campaigns have the toughest time raising money. His soft money PACS results are among the top tier.
It’s trump who has to worry about running out of money. As his free media declines, he’s going to have to start spending his own money. And he’s going to need to spend a bunch of it in the next few months, as ground organizations cost a lot of money. He’s got billions, but I’ve read that he may have only $300 million in cash or equivalents. Most of what he owns is real estate.
Will he want to part with as much a one third of his liquid assets? We’ll see. And then, if he wins the nomination, he need hundreds of millions, perhaps a billion dollars. The party will give the eventual nominee a few tens of millions of dollars. But where will the bulk of that money come? If he takes PACS money from all the billionaires, he visited one of the points in his favor - that because he’s not taking money from the “oligarchs,” he’s not beholden to “big meney.” Will he be willing to sell or borrow against a billion dollars of his two to four billion dollars (nobody but trump and cultist members of the Coven believe the ten billion number)? I’m not sure that’s in the cards.
Cruz, on the other hand, has already signaled he’ll take money from the billionaires. He won’t have any trouble raising what he needs for the general election, and so far, is out in front of most of the pack in terms of money needed for the nomination fight.
