Nothing for you to be sorry about, you wouldn't know unless you lived in the Chicago media market and actually saw the reports on TV.
The Chicago Police have been under manned for at least 5 years that I'm aware of, probably much longer. Chicago's budget and pension problems certainly don't help with this problem either.
Another thing you (and many others here on FR) probably don't know is that the overwhelming majority of all murders in Chicago happen in three neighborhoods. All three gang & drug infested so bad that often the police themselves won't go into them alone.
Finally, you probably don't hear about are the near ambushes that so many Chicago police find themselves in the middle of. That problem has gotten much worse since Ferguson.
I do not envy the Chicago police.
Thanks for the info on the city.
I know several people who have visited Chicago in recent years-——and they loved it.
A young family member graduated from Loyola last year. She loved the city.
I wish the police well——a very tough job.
