You've hit on a hot-button topic. Besides education, means testing is also now the basis of our health-delivery system as well - and yes, it most definitely will become the rule in Social Security. It is sneaking its way into many areas, including housing/loans as well. Many Republicans won't speak out against it because its not a "tax" per se and is an insidious way to pay for leftist social-engineering schemes without supporting them directly.
It burns me that my children will pay for my success (not that I’m financially successful or have considerable assets, but I pay my own bills); they will pay more for school (if they even get accepted) - and we are just expected to take it...
