Saw an interview with Newt the other night - EXCELLENT. No, I am not advocating Newt for speaker, but his views are worth listening to. Despite his personal failings, the man can strategize. When he was asked who should be speaker, he pointed to Congressman Dave Brat’s FB page & the “10 Commitments the Next Speaker and House Leaders Should Make”. Brat said he would support anyone who signs on to these ten items & Newt seemed to think anyone who espoused these would be acceptable. Food for thought - would Ryan be willing to sign on to #3?
Here is what is on Brat’s FB page:

The House will soon make an important decision on a new Speaker of the House and potentially other leadership positions. These leadership elections are important not only because they will decide who will lead the House of Representatives, but it will also have major implications for our policy efforts and the processes of the House. The next Speaker and other House leaders should make the following ten commitments before stepping into positions of public trust.
These commitments are essential to improving the structure of the House and showing the American people that we can lead with a positive agenda that helps the American people, not the interests of Washington’s political class.
10 Commitments the Next Speaker and House Leaders Should Make
Policy
1. Facilitate a budget that balances within 10 years and seek to enforce it through the authorizing and appropriations process.
2. Encourage committees to advance market-driven health care reforms to replace Obamacare.
3. Support policies that secure the border and enable interior enforcement while opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants.
4. Urge all committees to advance agendas based on limited government, economic opportunity, and fiscal responsibility.
5. Enforce the rule of law and separation of powers against executive (presidential) overreach.
Process
6. Seek reforms of the Republican Conference Rules so leadership committees better represent the American people.
7. Adhere to the majority-of-the-majority principle for bringing legislation to the floor.
8. Support changes to the budget process to promote fiscal responsibility, particularly regarding mandatory programs (70% of current spending).
9. Empower committee members to choose chairs and craft reform legislation without fear of retaliation.
10. Broaden opportunities to offer amendments and legislation on the House floor with full debate.
Marx despised capitalism and supported communism. I can recall during the height of the Cold War, that being called a capitalist was a positive and that being a communist was a negative. Now we have an avowed Socialist running as the Dem nominee.
It didn't work for Eugene Debs, but it might for Bernie. And unlike Debs, Bernie is seeking the nomination of the Dem party.
Did anyone catch Trump with Howie Kurtz on Fox? Trump tweeted something about it yesterday..”insightful” was the word I think he used..
But which witch is worse?
I dunno Bray.
I still think the driveby’s decide who is on based on the propaganda points they can score for THE Agenda (Marxism Uber Alles)...
They acquiesce to Trump because they think they’ll trip him up big time, but instead don’t touch a single, fully-swept forward hair. And of course, as Donald points out, their ratings go thru the roof!
didn’t Churchill—and I’m paraphrasing him in a round about way—say if you’re 30 and not yet a conservative, you are an idiot?
So what does that make all the aging hipster news media types?
Agree, I think most any of the Republican candidates can be the top contender, the media promoting who they think is weakest to help the Democrat in the general.
And Biden has waited too long-Bernie Sanders soaked up most the funds(and time) not donated to Hillary, and Biden isn’t even in the debate, that may be why this media play to promote Bloomberg so late in the game.
Yes, and Chuck Todd sort of predicting a Cruz surge. Not sure what to make of that.
Yes, budgeting hasn’t been a priority for a long time and we know Republicans get all the blame, never a Democrats fault, and the exponentially growing debts never get paid down any.
Who the hell is going to be debating on this thing, do you know?
The biggest problem being that they ultimately get watered down into half of what they are and many of them are not strong enough to begin with.
We need a border fence/wall within the first 18 months across the entire Southern border.
We don't need any immigration of any kind for at least two years.
We can't wait ten years to balance the budget. That's too long. Three or four years with an economy growing at 4% is more like it. We need a balanced budget within the first term of a Trump Presidency. We are in terrible economic straits. A balanced budget must happen almost immediately. I could go on but you get it.
The sentiment is that Ryan is amenable to procedural changes, if not in complete agreement with all Freedom/TP policies.
I suspect Conservatives would be happy with a fair fight, and that they very well might succeed in some of those fights, if given a chance. Therefore, it's not necessary (nor possible, likely, obstructionist) to insist the speaker is in lockstep.
I think it's a wise position. I'd love to see a guy like Louie Gohmert as speaker, but that's not happening. Webster is totally a process guy, and has support for that reason. Chaffetz has not been forgiven for penalizing party insubordination on committee assignments, even though he recanted.
So I’m back from mass and what an oddball mass this was.
First, there is my new priest who is still wowing Delaware with his homilies...he officiated at ALL THREE masses this morning and we couldn’t get a parking spot.
Below is my post when I interviewed Father Flowers, check it out.
We interview a new guy in town who couldn’t decide if he wanted to go into politics or become a priest. So Father Tom Flowers became a priest and still is into politics. His take on the Pope and Catholicism in today’s America.
So the organ is broke and this 700+ person mass is being done by piano, annoying me mightily.
THEN there is an accident on the road adjacent to the church....oh and the choir was singing but we were singing two songs that I know, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, but I got this alto behind me who sings all the wrong notes and wrong words....but I digress.
The accident took place on Tulip drive, in Lewes Delaware, was supposedly a bad one and the 10 am mass had to start late.
Father Tom, my hero, is officiating but again, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, he was wearing this vestment covered like they are with a horizontal and vertical strip....and those strips were covered with....say what?
LEAVES!
I’m mouthing to all my choir mates what the hell is this with Father Tom’s leaves? Then we note the church door rims are too covered with leaves.
Father Tom....heh, you never know what he’s going to do. He’s got some of them walking about...one homily he did on abortion and made some people mad.
By the way...Lewes Delaware was settled by the Dutch, did you know that? My church is on Tulip Drive....get it...get it?
Heh.
So the choir sings, terribly with me totally giving up and let’s not forget that awful piano.
Now before the mass I chanced to park next to Father Tom’s car....goofball drives his car from the rectory to the church-about 75 feet apart, a little red thing zips along. I found a sticky note in my Jeep and as his window was slightly ajar I wrote “Hi, from Pat Fish” and stuck the little note on his passenger window.
So after the mass there’s Father Tom outside greeting people like priests do and during the mass his thing was...you got to laugh I’m not making this up.....Father Tom says “ ‘When I say ‘God is good’, you respond ‘all the time’. If I say ‘All the time’ you say ‘God is good’.
So we did that a couple of times and after mass he tells a couple that his car is right there, and he points to some little red car across the parking lot. I’m thinking, dear Lord I put that sticky note on some stranger’s car.
But I look at the car Father Tom pointed out and I’m thinking “that’s not his car”. Man got a bad knee but I worry about his brain.
So I directed the couple to the REAL Father Tom’s car -which has a Knights of Columbus license plate, but of course. His car was right next to my Jeep so me and Diane Feinstein are talking next to my Jeep when out comes Father Tom with the couple he misdirected. I told Father Flowers that I knew he sent those folks in the wrong direction cause I put a sticky note on his car.
“I got a sticky note on my car?” he asks.
Heh. Well maybe you hadda be there.
So Father Tom reaches in and gets the sticky note, heh, and he shouts...”GOD IS GOOD!”
Then he waited. It might be hard to believe, but I forgot all about that “ALL THE TIME” thing and was stymied.
So Father Tom refreshes ailing short term memory of both me and Diane Feinstein then he had a momentary moment when he couldn’t find his keys. After some seconds he finds them.
I shout...”GOD IS GOOD”. Father Tom, the mysterious couple, and Diane Feinstein shout “ALL THE TIME”.
Then Father Tom shouts “ALL THE TIME” and we all shout, with parishioners still exiting the church and no doubt thinking we are all drunk....”GOD IS GOOD”.
Heh.
Again, maybe you hadda be there. Pleasant memory. And it is a beautiful day here in the swamps.
Now let me catch up on these Sunday talk shows.
The Dent-Hewitt GOPe tag team vs. Brat on Meet The Press was instructive. Video is available over at Breitbart.
Hint: Brat = principled conservative. Dent-Hewitt = GOPe trash.
Paul Ryan is not liked by the general public much less conservatives. His debate performance against Biden was unforgettably bad. Therefore this Amnesty-pimp RINO weakling is the Number One choice for Speaker by the GOPe. Because he can “govern.”
If a Republican wins the presidency in 2016 it will be in spite of the clueless and corrupt GOP.
CBS’s new poll had Cruz behind Trump, Carson....27%-Donald, 22%-Ben, Cruz 9%...ahead of Rubio at 8%....and all the rest. Cruz’ financing beat Rubio’s last quarter.
I thought the same thing about Newfreep. New freeps shouldn’t be sarcastic to their betters until they learn the drill.
Harding and the Depression of 1920/21. Harding cut both taxes and spending!
Economics
Harding cut federal spending, lowered taxes, and began paying off the wartime national debt. He restored prosperity by 1921, opening a decade of rapid growth known as the Roaring 20s.
Harding created the Bureau of the Budget to allow the White House to monitor all federal spending. Shortly after taking office, Harding also successfully passed promotion of US Agriculture, repeal of the wartime “excess profits” tax and reduction of rail rates.
Rader (1971) challenges the view that the tax policies of Harding’s Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon reversed the progressive policies of the Wilson years and allowed the wealthy to become wealthier. The new rates were very low for most people, and yet were high enough to retire the war debt and generate a budget surplus. The net effect of this legislation, Rader argues, was to “impose more progressivity on the federal income tax structure than has existed in any other peace-time period of American history.”
