He may be smarter than I thought. There may never be the requisite numbers behind any candidate. Boehner could be there for a while. I could see the RINOs and “conservatives” having enough power to block each others candidates. Where would a compromise candidate come from.

Nancy Pelosi or Steny Hoyer need 30 Republican votes to become the next Speaker.

I don't think that represents a serious obstacle.

leave to pubs to not have the discipline nor the statesmanship to back one candidate to rid themselves of an onerous one.

Maybe a compromise between an establishment squish (conservative ranking circa 46%) and a conservative (conservative ranking circa 92%), thus settling for someone in the middle (conservative ranking circa 69%)?
