Every day seems to bring an escalation of the Russian military involvement in Syria. First it was airstrikes from more than 30 warplanes that Russia has positioned in Syria. Now its cruise missile strikes from warships in the Caspian Sea. Soon, if hints from Moscow are to be believed, Russian volunteers a.k.a. Little Green Men will be showing up in Syria to engage in ground combat alongside Iranian and Assad forces.
President Obama can pretend that this is no big deal and that Russia is getting sucked into a quagmire, but this is a serious geopolitical disaster and a major humiliation for the United States. Putin, in fact, seems to be going out of his way to target American-backed rebel groups and to send his aircraft to violate the airspace of Turkey, a NATO ally, as if to demonstrate how powerless mighty American has become and how once-weak Russia can again strut on the world stage.

Yep. That’s the consequence of having a bimbo as a leader.
How about the way to roll back Russia is for the USA to side with Assad for him to wipe out the jihadis (and all the Syrian rebels are jihadis) and then call it a win?
I hope Russia will not get sucked into a quagmire, but I imagine they learned from Afghanistan and will be more cautious. As for a geopolitical disaster, Obama is a disaster, and anything that stops Obama from further destabilizing another country is a good thing. Russia's efforts to restore stability are not a humiliation for the United States, just for Obama, and he's not American in any meaningful sense.
Roll back? We should be rolling WITH Russia to eradicate the islamo terrorists. This ain’t the same USSR boogie man so many are whining about.
Agreed. I’m not remotely humiliated.
Never put your ‘weak brother’ in charge.
Russia had a huge quagmire in Chechnya and stuck with it until they finished the job. Similar situation. Let’s let Russia take care of this business. After all they house their Black Sea fleet at a port in Syria and have a solid economic and trade history with Syria.
Uh No...
And Hell No, sabre rattling accomplishes nothing but satisfaction to a Strutting Cock, and more than a few of everybody’s eggs will be broken!
We have our own Oil, more than we need in truth and that us diametrically opposed to where we were decades ago..
This extended dependence cycle is needlessly progating now. Pragmatically, the Russians are doing us a huge favor by exposing harshly and uncompromisingly just how najed we appear with U know who at the helm
Let them fight Islam, or corral it, my interest in the ME is Israel and all else is secondary as the cost for results too high
Or as my friend Derek says “Was the Juice worth the squeeze?”
How about a clueless Marxist idiot?
Russia in the middle east is much more serious and deadly than the desert fleas with AK-47’s. The FR cheering squad is in for a deadly awakening.
Obama has hurt us again by not killing ISIS.
Russia killing jihadis in Syria bothers me not a bit.
What groups? ISIS? Go ahead Vlad, exterminate 'em.
You’re always for Putin, but I’m against tyranny to include Assad, ISIS, and Putin. You can believe there is good tyranny if you like. The best that can happen right now is for both Assad and ISIS to lose. The fact is, though, that Putin will put most of his firepower against the Islamists lasted. They provide him a rationale for his geo-political land grab.
Thanks elhombrelibre.
One good consequence to this is that liberals do not tend to get elected when Americans perceive a serious threat on the world stage. People are willing to give them a shot when things are calm and the stakes aren’t too high, but usually when people see we are playing for keeps, the liberals lose.
Putin is targeting the same groups that ISIS targests. So yes there are forces fighting Assad that are not loyal to the Islamists.
Bull-Shite. Name a viable alternative to Assad in power that at the minimum preserves the Christian community of Syria like Assad’s regime has. My opinion? You are just being anti-Russian and you could care less how many Christians die in Syria and Iraq. This position of mine is neither pro or anti Putin.
Or to directly shoot down Russian aircraft.
The way out is military pressure on Iran. Take out the nuke capability and governmental infrastructure...overnight. And then implement a no-fly zone over Iraq.
Renew military ties and support to Egypt.
Make sure Israel gets the first 200 F-35's off the line.
You bet.
