I looked, and there is a rowdy bar with “Mermaid” dancers, a night club and a gay bar in that area.
He might have been looking for a Mermaid tail.

Fox was reporting he was stabbed outside a club called Faces. The Sacremento Bee reports he’d left a club called Badlands and was waking towards another club when the attack occurred.
