Why would Russia put warships in the Caspian Sea? Looking at the map, it seems counterintuitive.

Its just that as a landlocked body of water, those vessels are limited in their deployment.

They will never experience the salt of the open sea. The sailors on those vessels will never get to visit exotic ports of call.

What do they get to visit and see? The dancing goats of Salyan, Azerbaijan. Wow.
