Russian jets hit 12 Islamic State targets in the course of nearly 20 combat flights carried out in Syria on Tuesday, the Defense Ministry said. Command centers and training camps were destroyed in the attacks which threw the extremists into panic.

"Su-34, Su-24M and Su-25 have launched air strikes on 12 objects of logistic infrastructure, command posts, training camps and facilities of militants belonging to terrorist groups allied with Islamic State [IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL],” Igor Konashenkov, Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Russian jets destroyed an Islamic State army munitions plant outside Damascus as well as two command centers in Deir ez-Zor, according to the ministry’s statement. In the Idlib Governorate, a training camp for IS militants was eliminated, while several IS strongholds came under attack where ammunition depots were blown up.

Nobody is happy about anything. How can anyone be happy about the downing of a commercial airliner and the looting of the crash site? These are not things to be happy about.

And, when there is a dispute between the USA and Russia, I'm going to side with the USA. Everybody has to make his own choice, I guess.

Yes, let me repeat it. I side with the USA. I always have. It’s become like a habit, I guess. Everyone has to make his own choice. If Putin turns you on, there’s nothing I can or even want to say to change your view.

I side with the Christians who are being slaughtered by your Islamic buddies in Syria. From what I’ve read, Syrias Christians are happy that Russia is bombing their persecutors. Too bad it bumbs you out!

I know who you're siding with here. You just keep siding with Russia and Assad and you just keep opposing the USA.

As was in the past, so will be the future. History will straighten you out.

You’re pretty callous about the suffering of Syrias Christians. At least everybody on this thread can see where you’re coming from

Assad is not a Christian. Assad's constitution provides that a Christian cannot under any circumstances serve as the president of Syria. Assad is a thug. That is why Putin sees him as a soulmate. They deserve one another.

I wish I had a good answer for the short-term safety of Christians, Jews or Muslims in Syria. It's a genuine hell on earth. But Putin, Iran and Assad are not the best answer for Christians in Syria.

And, I think you have to know that.

Stop your deflection, you’re not fooling anybody

nobody said Assad is a Christian or that he allows Christians into the government. But it’s common knowledge that he has protected the Christians in Syria from Islamic killers. I know that doesn’t matter to you, but it does to me. Also to Franklin Graham, who put out a statement last week saying that a side effect of Russias’ interventtion is that Christians will benefit. It will save Christian lives.

CHRISTIANITY TODAY
Syria’s Christians Back Assad

Church leaders say the embattled president should stay on.

Dale Gavlak in Amman, Jordan, and Beirut, Lebanon, and Timothy C. Morgan/ JULY 7, 2011

This spring, many Syrian Christians rejected protestors’ demands for embattled president Bashar al-Assad to resign. But Christians did broadly endorse democratic reforms that would bring an end to dictatorship.

“We do not support those who are calling for the fall of the regime, simply because we are [for] the process of reform and changes,” said Yohanna Ibrahim, Syrian Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo, at a religious summit in France.

In late May, International Christian Concern, an evangelical ministry to the persecuted church, released to Christianity Today an anonymous open letter from a “trusted Syrian source” that explains why many Syrian Christians support Assad’s regime. The two-page letter calls for help from the larger Christian community. It says in part:

• “Christian service has flourished remarkably in Syria. We regard Syria as a model Arab country when it comes to freedom of worship.”

• Radical Muslim groups are “responsible for the disturbance” in the country. “Christians are the first to be persecuted when we talk about governmental change.”

• “We are seeking [Christians’] help to prevent what happened in Iraq and Egypt from happening in Syria. Christian service in Syria is in danger now.”

Are you saying he is a halfwit?

That is a requirement for being a part of the Obama administration.

Russia and Assad are the best for the Christians in Syria. Might nice of you of you to just say “no good short term answer” to those Christians being beheaded and crucified.
The best answer is those Sukhoi bombers being blessed by orthodox priests out on the ramp, not F-16s commanded by homos and trannys and a revolutionary socialist president.

And, I think you have to know that.

Sounds strangely similar to an Obama economy report.

Good one!

The information is even similarly dubious. For example: "The Russian jets destroyed an Islamic State army munitions plant outside Damascus" is highly suspect, unless the Russkis define 4 guys counting their grenades as a "munitions plant". ISIS is not strong around Damascus at all. Some of the other rebel groups are, though.

It’d be great if this is in fact true, but do keep in mind that RT (Russia Today) is a pure Soviet, uh, Russian propaganda site.

I beg to differ. It's the Almighty who will straighten it out. It's his side we endeavor to be on and why so many here are happy someone, even a former enemy (i.e. Russia), is taking the lead to halt the rape and slaughter which by all accounts this abomination of an administration helped to bring about.

Unquestioned loyalty to a nation which has lost its way and no longer stands by the values upon which it was founded isn't a virtue, it's the blind being led by the blind.

The world saw this kind of blindness in WWII when loyal Germans slaughtered 6 million of their fellow countrymen.

We've hire mercenaries to cause strife and mayhem in a foreign land in the name righteousness, but in actuality nefarious reasons, resulting in the deaths and suffering of many innocent people whose blood is on our hands. You're not going to sweep this under the rug with any amount of self-serving propaganda. Better to open your eyes and help us put a stop to it by speaking out about it.

Germans killed 11 million of their countrymen. Plus 4,200,000 soldiers and civilians from war.

So why do we see so of our mishaps on the inter net and not so many from Russian mishaps?

The Russians don't fight "nice" wars. They kill everything in sight, so "journalists" steer clear.

You're absolutely right about that. We all need to trust God when things get crazy.

Unquestioned loyalty to a nation which has lost its way and no longer stands by the values upon which it was founded isn't a virtue, it's the blind being led by the blind.

Well, I wasn't alive during the 1930's, but I come close. What I'm going to say may be hard to believe, but during that during that time there were some Americans who so hated FDR that they actually rooted for Hitler and his gangster friends for quite some time. (Eventually, they came around.) So, when I see some Americans rooting for a thugs like Putin and Assad today, I am not completely surprised. For a lot of people there is no distinction between foreign policy and domestic policy.

I am an American. I know that my country has made some mistakes, but on balance, my country has been a very important force for decency in the world. I am going to stick with the USA. Those who choose to follow Putin, Assad and Iran will do so at their own risk.

"I am an American. I know that my country has made some mistakes, but on balance, my country has been a very important force for decency in the world. I am going to stick with the USA. Those who choose to follow Putin, Assad and Iran will do so at their own risk."

I'm a Christian. I see my nation spreading evil in the world instead of decency. That it's happening, is plain for anyone with eyes to see. Your statement above tells me you see it to. It saddens me to see this as I'm sure it does you. Ignoring facts won't make them go away. If you really love your country and wish to see her return to a force for good, voicing your objection to continuing mistakes works to that end.

Putin, Assad and Iran have all committed evil deeds. Putin it seems, at least, has had a change of heart. I've read Mr. Putin has turned to God. Apostle Paul turned from evil to God. Can not the Almighty still performs such miracles in men's hearts? Certainly Putin's actions to save the Christians as well as others in the M.E. indicates a desire to do good, even if it coincides with other motives he might have in the interest of his nation. Shall we allow rape, torture, beheading, and the slaughter, something our country help to bring about, continue because we fear he might gain an advantage for his nation?

You would actually have this evil continue and spread further across this region of the world so that you may enjoy the knowledge your country held Putin/Russia to the 50 yard line, if I may. Really? Is this just a game where we completely ignore a rash of personal fouls in our zeal to win by any means necessary? Then let's have a big hurrah! in the face of the young boy who had his fingers chopped off before being crucified in front of his father, who wouldn't convert from Christianity to Islam this week.

Your fellow countrymen here, speak out against this kind of evil and feel proud for someone who is actually doing something to try to stop it. For that, you lump us in with past evil and current evil (i.e. Iran). So who/what is it you really love?

We're never going to become good again if we continue to do wrong. Waving a banner and living in the past, and with blinders on, isn't going to change the future. Not supporting those who are trying to do good - IS wrong my FRiend. If this post doesn't get that across to you, then nothing ever will.
