Rep. Daniel Webster officially announced his bid for House speaker Tuesday morning, two days before the House GOP is slated to vote on a replacement to retiring Speaker John A. Boehner.

Mr. Webster, a third-term Republican from Florida, joins Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Utah Republican, as officially announced challengers hoping to deny the speakership to Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the current No. 2 who had seemed on a glide-path to ascend to the House’s top post.

I’m not up on all the House protocol but is there any chance Pelosi can win if we’re divided?

Why we haven’t heard more about him, I don’t know. He’s got Gohmert’s support. Webster is not the most conservative, but he’s not a squish either. He’s representing a liberal area in Orange County (next county over from mine) and was able to get elected.

A key fact about Webster- he beat Alan Grayson!

Daniel Webster has been dead since 1852...

...but he’ll STILL be a better Speaker than John Boehner ever dreamed of being....

McCarthy is dropping out.
