Statement by the North Atlantic Council on incursions into Turkey’s airspace by Russian aircraft
NATO ^ | Last updated: 05 Oct. 2015 17:23 | NATO

The North Atlantic Council met today to hold consultations on the potential implications of the recent dangerous military actions of the Russian Federation in and around Syria.

Allies expressed their deep concern with regard to the Russian military build-up in Syria and especially the attacks by the Russian Air Force on Hama, Homs, and Idlib which led to civilian casualties and did not target Da’esh. Allies call on the Russian Federation to immediately cease its attacks on the Syrian opposition and civilians, to focus its efforts on fighting ISIL, and to promote a solution to the conflict through a political transition.

Russian military actions have reached a more dangerous level with the recent violations of Turkish airspace on 3 October and 4 October by Russian Air Force SU-30 and SU-24 aircraft in the Hatay region. The aircraft in question entered Turkish airspace despite Turkish authorities’ clear, timely and repeated warnings. In accordance with NATO practice, Turkish fighter aircraft responded to these incursions by closing to identify the intruder, after which the Russian planes departed Turkish airspace.

Allies strongly protest these violations of Turkish sovereign airspace, and condemn these incursions into and violations of NATO airspace. Allies also note the extreme danger of such irresponsible behaviour. They call on the Russian Federation to cease and desist, and immediately explain these violations.

Allies call on the Russian side to take all necessary measures to ensure that such violations do not take place in the future.

The security of the Alliance is indivisible, and Allies stand in strong solidarity with Turkey. We will continue to follow the developments on the South-Eastern borders of NATO very closely.

What’s really outrageous is pond scum such as yourself siding with Obama on Foreign policy. Why don’t you leave this CONSERVATIVE website. We conservatives will side with anyone who fights and kills the Muslim menace.

Where did I side with Obama? I didn’t. The kenyan will be gone in 15 months. OTOH, fascist Russia run by a mass murdering KGB thug & hostage holding Iran are playing the long game.

Time to put away your political checkerboard and start thinking ahead a few moves, FRiend. Or you can continue to be a useful idiot of the Kremlin. I thought they went away with the end of the CW, apparently not.

What cheering? What is NATO’s response to Turkey violating Greece’s airspace? If not on the same scale then it’s just NATO pretending they are angry for diplomatic points/sabre rattling.

Looks like somebody else doth protest too much. LOL.

I’ve seen enough of your posts to know you have a bad case of Putinphilia. That’s usually an uncurable disease, unfortunately

I’m PRO DEATH for ISIS.

Well then you should pick a different horse besides Russia because ISIS is the reason for Putin’s military campaign in Syria. No way he gives total “Death to ISIS” and removes his reason for projecting Russian power in the ME.

Turkey is in large part the one creating much of the chaos.....from cutting loose/using the refugee masses to overwhelm Europe in order to force further action in Syria to end the war....to using the war to take out the Kurds on it’s border....to supporting any and all terrorist groups in Syria when advantageous to them they do so.

The Pentagon did announce that they’re not going to arm the opposition anymore because they discovered that the opposition they have been arming were selling or giving arms to Al-Nusra and probably to ISIL...........

So the question then is what’s the difference between the moderate opposition and the immoderate opposition that the media keeps harping about??????.... It’s clear they’re all terrorists.

And just food for thought.....Putins also taking out Russian terrorists fighting in Syria.

Not one of those places listed is anywhere near the United States.

Try swimming in your own lane for a change.

Turkey has the most to lose here, They’re pretty well much an Albatross around Nato’s neck due the success in Edrogan’s re-Islamification effort.

The violation of course was a calculated insult. Putin knows he has the upper hand now.

ISIS isn’t going anywhere. I’d bet my house on that. No ISIS, no reason for Russia to test NATO alliance & air space in Turkey. Comprende?

Personally I hate both parties. They are welcome to fight it out amongst themselves.

Both are but I can’t contain a certain glee that Russia could reprise the Crimean war to their victory.

Better question, why is Turkey a part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization?

Good question. It this a league for mutual defense or just some sort of goodwill organization that wants world actors to feel good to belong?

BULLSHIT!

These guys couldn’t fight their way out of a paper bag, let along against Putin.

The French would field the Pink Panther Brigade.
The Germans, the Pink Panzer Brigade.
The US, the Pink Panties Brigade.
The British, the Pink Prince Brigade.
The Italians, the Pink Pope Brigade
The Spanish, the Pink Paella Brigade
The Greeks, the Pink E-Feta Cheese Brigade
The Hungarians, the Pink Paprika Brigade
The Poles, the Pink Poles Brigade (what did you expect?)

Under Obama, the real Pink Prince, (aka The Pink Fink), his military Chief of Staff would be RuPaul, Secy of Defense Rosie O’Donnell, and Secy of Dept. of Homeland Security, Valerie Jarrett.

In other words, “We Surrender”!
