VLADIMIR Putin is preparing to send 150,000 troops to Syria in a bid to wipe out the evil Islamic State once and for all.
The Russian leader is reportedly mounting an enormous military mission to take control of the terror group's stronghold of Raqqa.
The city is the self-declared capital of ISIS in Syria and is patrolled by as many as 5,000 jihadi members.
Putin is set to mobilise 150,000 reservists who he conscripted into the military earlier this week.
An insider revealed: "It is very clear that Russia wants to sweep up the west of the country, taking Raqqa and all the oil and gas resources around Palmyra.
"This is fast becoming a race to Raqqa to secure the oil fields they need to cleanse the region of insurgents, and the IS capital is vital to do that."
It comes a day after Russian jets obliterated nine ISIS outposts in just 24 hours using bunker-busting bombs.
Russian jets pounded terrorist targets and blew up a command centre, potentially killing dozens of fighters.
Confirming the successful raids, Andrei Kartapolov from the Russian army vowed to ramp up the pressure, saying: "We will not only continue strikes... We will also increase their intensity."
And Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said: "Over the past 24 hours, Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24M fighter jets have performed 20 sorties and hit nine Islamic State installations.

Most likely, he’ll bugger off back to Iraq. I can’t help but wonder if perhaps that’s Russia’s strategy - push these clowns back into Iraq and then ISIS is (ostensibly) our headache.
If you believe McCain and the WSJ, Putin can’t be allowed to to that because he might wipe-out some phony or ineffective “moderates” in the process.
Well I hope it doesn’t turn into another Afghanistan for them.
If I’m counting them correctly, this will go down in history as the 10th Crusade.

You cannot “wipe them out”.
It’s an ideology that is endemic in Islamic culture.
And they are reproducing at a far higher rate than Russia (or any other Western country). So you can kill many of them but there are more on the way.
ISIS or something very like it will always be a part of the picture there.
Meanwhile our wimpy-a$$ dork refuses to eliminate ISLAMIC STATE (not ISIS, not ISIL, it’s ISLAMIC STATE!).
I don’t think he’s not using the reservists for combat, but relieving active duty troops at home so they could be used for combat instead
Not that I believe that wiping them out is what his plan is but IF he could succeed in wiping them and establishing some kind of order he would gain a top position as the world leader who dispatched one of the most evil groups on earth. Something our islamic asshole in chief refused to do.
Nobody is more suited to the scorched earth, kill them all approach that will be needed to wipe them out than Putin.
Yes. This will not go well for Russia.
When you say you cannot wipe them out. You are making an false statement. They could be wiped out.
That they won’t be wipe out is likely true, but the capability exists. If it were the Romans, they would kill all the Muslim males over the age of 4, disperse the rest, and give the land to more agreeable people.
This reads like nonsense, and does not correspond with any actual fact in terms of the military strategy of any known country. Spare the insults, too, since Russia is not doing anything of the sort.
The last I heard ISIS troop numbers were under 50k total, wiping them out would not be a problem for any true military committed to the effort. It won’t be pretty and a lot of innocent blood will be spilled in the process, but obliterating ISIS just requires the will to do it. Russia will not hesitate to bomb Mosques or accept civilian collateral damage to do what needs to be done.
You cannot wipe out an ideology by killing people ... especially people that are 1.5 BILLION strong and increasing exponentially in population, a certain percentage of which are coming of age every day and are radical.

If we cannot even try to wipe them out, then they win. I’ll see you down at the mosque. (Sarc.)
Go Putin! Wipe all their 7th century savage a$$es out.
Or rather laying the foundation for the future preaching of the Gospel of the Lord to the ones who remain.
We should contain them.
People have been trying to ‘wipe them out’ ... including by the way themselves wiping each other out ... for centuries. It is not working.
Containment can work.
Let us be realistic.
A certain percentage of the 1.5 BILLION and growing Muslims will be Islam-o-whackos. Always have been. Always will be.
We wiped out ideologies in Japan and Germany. How? By killing them until they gave them up.
Mesopotamian civilization was destroyed. How? The Mongols killed them and made a pyramid of skills on the banks of the Euphrates.
The Spanish put an end to the Aztec ideology.
It is clearly doable.
I disagree. You can kill a lot of people sure, but there are more to come. And they carry the ideology forward. Sometimes it is in abeyance for a long time, but it does not go away.
By the way, the Mongols who piled up those skulls were Muslims. ISIS is basically following what Tamerlane did in the 1300’s ... using massive violence and force to create a vast caliphate or Islamic empire. That’s 700 years at least that this ideology has been on the rampage. So it’s not that easy to stamp out.
In the meantime, their numbers are growing exponentially and ours are shrinking.
If you are correct, then you have nothing to worry about, as they can’t kill off our ideology either.
I happen to disagree. Extermination works.
