The father of the Oregon community college shooter said Saturday that he "had no idea that he had any guns whatsoever" and called for more restrictions as he questioned how his 26-year-old son obtained as many as 13 firearms.
"How on Earth could he compile 13 guns? How can that happen?" asked Ian Mercer, the father of Christopher Harper-Mercer, who killed nine people and injured nine others in the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg.

This absent father has a checkered background himself, according to the Daily Mail. Some of the guns belonged to “family members,” so why is he so clueless? Perhaps some parenting by fathers would be an answer to these vicious evil young men who destroy the lives of others.
Why do so many parental units screwup their kids?
His parents were divorced when he was 17.
Either way he either help raise a monster by bad parenting or abandoning his son.
Why don’t YOU tell us pops! Why weren’t you raising your kid?
Weird that autistic kids are into guns. Should probably exclude them through background check. Why did parents put guns in hands of non-emotionally connected autistic kids?
Its easy guy... your exwife bought them with her alimony and or her child support.
He lives with his mother.
However, his questions as to how does a pycho gets 13 guns is good. But don’t stop there - how do they get hard drugs so easily; how do creeps get entered into universities; why are they on the streets; etc.
“The Second Amendment has no limits on firepower”-NY State Senator Kathleen A. Marchione.”
“””Hey Dad, how many folks could your son have killed with a car? Did you teach him to drive?”””
I have not read anywhere that the shooter had a car. The only vehicle mentioned is his bicycle.
So many questions are still unanswered. Particularly regarding his mother who gave the shooter shelter.
IMHO - Clueless people like this absentee father are often part of the problem.
We don’t need more gun control we need more control of idiots, mental cases and criminals.
The gun didn’t just jump up by itself and start firing.
If this killer didn’t have access to a gun he would have killed in some other way to get attention.
26 years old. 13 guns.
When I was that age I had bought legally over 40 guns. I didn’t smoke or drink, worked lots of overtime so had extra cash! That was during the “ban the handgun!” days so everyone was stocking up.
When I became sick and lost my job, they came in handy for keeping food on the table as I sold them off to pay bills and found another job.
Wish I still had them now that Obama is in power.
“What conflicting stories?”
The perp didn’t know his father; his father is making public (anti-gun) statements;
The perp is a white supremest; he’s half-white/half-black
The perp is a conservative Republican; he’s anti-white/anti-Christian
The only thing for sure is he was demented.
It’s everyone else’s fault that you don’t know what goes on in your house?

13 firearms is an OK amount....heck the guy I make ammo with has close to 40....a great functional arsenal for hunting and protection, I have only two ,45’s that’s all I want to be responsible for....I would never admit to owning any firearms...nor would I register them with anyone if I even did own any.....just forget the fact i said I have two....

+1 good question.
Mine was a rhetorical question.
They are many, many items which can be used to murder a single individual and many that will kill multiple victims quicker, easier and with more certainty than a gun.
The ubiquitous automobile, which most of the population has free access to, could be a very deadly “weapon of mass destruction”, to use the phrase the MSM favors when they “get their panties in a wad”.
Ban all guns, knives, bows & arrows, spears, hammers, rocks and garrotes and an individual intent on mass murder only has to go to the nearest Hertz, Avis or Budget rental counter, hijack a cab or ask, “Hey Dad, can I borrow the keys tonight?”
Since he was bat**** crazy (he attended a "special needs" school and was reported to have been in the Army for one month before being discharged) there is a decent chance that he was collecting SSI. Living with mom, that could have all been spending money.
So my guess is that he got the money for the 13 guns from you (and me).
(And kudos to dad for all the interest he took in raising his son! I think most normal dads would know at least a little bit about their son's shooting hobby.)
