Russia does not appear to be bombing ISIL, they are attacking the other rebel forces besieging Assad.
This is the problem with letting Russia get their foot in Syria like this. They are there to prop of their ally Assad, not destroy ISIL.
What is ISIL ?
Obama isn’t there to destroy ISIS either, he collaborates and arms the ISIS, er rebels, to get rid of Assad, which is all he cares about.
Neither side is lily white.
Until we stepped in and started helping the rebels fighting Assad he could have kept ISIS and ISIL under control. Now, with Russia fighting the rebels maybe Assad can wipe out the Christian killers.
The ME will always need to be run by dictators. We just have to make sure it’s our dictator who will do what we tell him to do. Russia wants them to be their dictators and do what Russia tells them to do. Can you blame them?
What is wrong with protecting Assad? Assad is bad but the rebels are far, far worse.
Totally agree, Russia or Assad don’t fight ISIS.
Syria helped Terrorists against the USA in the invasion of Iraq as we know, Iran also was involved with Soleimani and killed our soldiers. http://www.heritage.org/research/commentary/2004/10/syria-s-trouble
The Syrian Regime back in the ‘80s likely helped bomb the Beirut Marine Barracks as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Beirut_barracks_bombing
Yes, Assad can claim he is protecting Christians but he’s also putting them in a difficult position as well.
Druze are a minority, see how that has worked for them recently.
The Christians from news reports should have been helped in the Summer of 2014,
The Russians are there to fortify Latakia should Damascus fall.
Russia will go after any group that is trying to overthrow Assad. That will include the rebels that Obama has been covertly supporting and ISIS too.
The Assads have been Russian clients for decades. Russia has had its sole Mediterranean naval base in Syria since 1971. It’s in their interest to keep Assad in power to keep their naval base secure, and Russians have a history of helping their friends that goes back long before Putin.
