HOUSTON, Texas — For the third year in a row, Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz has won the Values Voter Summit Straw Poll. The Values Voter annual summit is the largest gathering of evangelical voters from across the country. The event is hosted by Family Research Council. This year, the annual summit to discuss issues important to Christians was held at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC. Attendees heard from some of America’s foremost Christian leaders, including Tony Perkins, the President of Family Research Council, as well as several candidates for president.
“I am humbled and honored to have the support of so many Christian Conservatives,” said Ted Cruz. “But in order for our values to truly be represented in the White House, it’s going to take millions of Christians encouraging each other to get involved and, most importantly, to vote.”
The Values Voter Summit Straw Poll is considered to be a reliable indicator of which candidate for president has the most support from evangelical voters. These voters make up a significant portion of early-state voter turnout in Iowa and South Carolina, as well as the Southern states that make up the so-called SEC primary on March 1st.
Cruzs support from attendees at the Values Voter Summit nearly doubled that of the closest contender:
1. Cruz – 35%
2. Carson – 18%
3. Huckabee – 14%
4. Rubio – 13%
5. Trump – 5%
This result comes off Cruzs domination of the FreedomWorks Straw poll earlier in the month — a strong sign of who Tea Party voters support — where he received 41%, better than triple that of his closest competitor.

I think this guy is a Reagan conservative. He’s one of very few politicians to whom I have contributed. I trust him to use my money carefully.
Ted Cruz | 35% |
Ben Carson | 18% |
Mike Huckabee | 14% |
Marco Rubio | 13% |
Donald Trump | 5% |
Rick Santorum | 4% |
Carly Fiorina | 3% |
Bobby Jindal | 3% |
Rand Paul | 2% |
Write In Candidate | 1% |
John Kasich | 1% |
Jeb Bush | 1% |
Chris Christie | 0% |
Lindsey Graham | 0% |
I think the Write In Candidate is Bernie Sanders.
I think this is indicative of the grassroots support that does not show up in the other polls being conducted. There is simply no other explanation for such a strong principled Conservative not being higher in those polls.
Absolutely!
I think it is safe to say Trump won’t be mentioning this poll. Probably also proves he was infact booed at this summit for calling Rubio a “clown” considering Marco got almost 3 times the vote as “the Donald” did. Yes, it is just a straw poll and has no real scientific value - but it measures support of an important group of conservative voters. And the lack of a polls scientific value has never stopped Trump from touting them when he wins one.
“I think it is safe to say Trump wont be mentioning this poll...Yes, it is just a straw poll and has no real scientific value...”
Yes, Trump should clarify that he is winning in all of the state and national scientific polls and only leading in most of the unscientific polls. Good point!
Donald is doing some valuable heavy lifting for Cruz and you never hear either of them criticizing each other. Somethings happening here. Cruz to victory.
I would be happy with both Trump and Cruz on the ticket. The next few months will be very interesting.
Something doesn’t smell right. I think a lot of us feel this way (why isn’t Cruz doing better?).
