Trump’s skill is in making the working class and middle class like him, and feel like he’s one of them, and be willing to follow him. It’s a very different skill set.

If you cannot get the people (not just the True Believers on FR, but regular GOP voters, moderates, and independents) ENTHUSED about your vision, then they will not show up on election day, and you will lose.

Trump approaches it like he’s offering a hand up to lower class, middle class, Obama’s approach, like the Progressive Party he represents offers hand outs to lower class while creating more lower class from the middle class.
