“Three years ago Trump was widely regarded as a joke, a shyster, and a liberal on FR”

I was saying the same thing right up until this July. I’d still be saying that if I thought it was accurate. I’m not a fan of New Yorkers, braggarts, publicity whores, and ostentatious wealth all of which he seems to have in spades. But I think that’s an image he carefully cultivated and that’s all that it is, an image.

“I keep hearing people say they like Cruz and would support him if his numbers were higher. Well, but it doesn’t work that way. His numbers go higher WHEN we support him”

Cruz’ numbers aren’t remotely close enough. He appeals to those of us who follow politics and who have a consistent set of beliefs. But there’s not enough of us to even get him the nomination this time around, much less elect him. That could change in the future. I’m not going to try to discourage you from voting for him because I like Cruz.

” I don’t see Trump appealing to a wide enough base of voters to become the nominee. He can’t control his mouth long enough.”

I see it as being exactly the opposite. He has enormous name recognition. Low information voters pay attention to him. His appeal confounds the usual categories. One of my Mexican pals asked me what I thought of Trump back in July. I said I kinda like what he’s saying. My friend said “I do too. I know he’s a racist but I can deal with that. I’d vote for him.” Now my friend has immediate family who are illegals, so Trump’s comments aren’t theoretical for him, they hit close to home. But Trump’s strong personality has a lot of appeal to latinos. Throw in his celebrity and his patriotism and he’s going to pull in a lot of votes.

We’ll have to agree to disagree here, FRiend.

Like I said, I’ve done some reading about the man, going back years. The boasting gasbag you see is who he is.

When Cruz ran for the Senate, he was dismissed as nothing but a loser then, too. According to one poll, he was at -1 with absolutely no name recognition. But he ended up winning handily over an extremely popular, wealthy, self-funded candidate, and that was because of the unique campaign he ran. He’s running the same type of campaign now. I’m not worried about him.

I’m not interested in a liberal celebrity president, especially with everything that’s at stake right now. Thomas Sowell is right...we need to get serious.

Trump donated $25,000 to Terry McAuliffe’s Virginia gubernatorial campaign. So, thanks in part to “the Donald”, that sleazy piece of trash crouches like a toad in the governor’s mansion of my state.

For that alone-—and God knows I have plenty more reasons-—I wouldn’t vote for Trump under any circumstance.
