After considering what you said a little more, it sounds as if you don’t think someone can be saved unless evangelism is done the way you would do it. Maybe that’s not what you mean or believe, but that’s how it comes across.

Please know that ALL those given by the Father to the Son will come to Christ and be saved (John 6:37). His people will be willing in the day of HIS power (Psalm 110:3). Never forget that salvation is a matter of grace, it’s an undeserved, unmerited gift. We Christians are to witness and spread the good news, but it’s never in our hands. We are given the honor or being involved, but make no mistake about it, from beginning to end, salvation is in His hands, just as it has always been. If the Lord doesn’t give a man ears to hear, it won’t matter how biblically correct our message or how impressive our technique. “Salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9).”

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

I think evangelism could be a lot stronger than it is. Far be it from me to not, like Paul, be grateful to God that any message at all is being presented; the Lord can arrange for holes to be filled even in the case of what the bible itself calls “selfish motives.”

I hope I can be indulged as having some wisdom of experience with a perspective of over 25 years of faith after even more years of unbelief and watching myself bumble and fumble and fail and agonize because of going after faith in a self centered way, and on the way watch others fall shorter than they can as well. That is an exceedingly hard demon to slay. It takes an industrial strength love to slay it and that can only be had by being willing to absorb it from the Lord. But then it becomes evident that love really is the name of the game. As, ironically, I knew instinctively when a child, but the people I knew who had the most influence on me had harsh, bitter attitudes and that began to prevail on me because I had no Christ to appeal to with my soul.

Maybe I am still am too eager in some areas than I ought to be.

And I submit I have scriptural support for this “pecking order” of love over all other aspects of faith: 1 Cor 13.

This does not, of course, mean that anything that comes down the pike calling itself love in fact IS love. There is some shallow thinking to that effect, but if one keeps calm one can easily counter it by pointing out where the hate, usually vicious, is in such illusions.
