Donald Trump has emerged none the worse for wear in Iowa after last week's Republican primary debate, leading in the all-important first caucus state according to a statewide poll released Tuesday.
Trump's recent emphasis on religion – he carried a Bible on stage at Saturday's 'Faith and Freedom Forum' in Des Moines and sat down for a multi-part interview last week with the Christian Broadcasting Network – has borne fruit In Iowa's deeply religious farm country.
Fifty-four per cent of Republicans surveyed by Public Policy Polling said they were evangelical Christians. Sixty-nine percent said they agree with Trump's complaint that President Barack Obama is waging a 'war on Christianity.'
Another 30 per cent told pollsters they believe the religion of Islam should be 'illegal in the United States.' That position bolsters Dr. Ben Carson, the poll's second-place finisher, who said on Sunday that he wouldn't support the election of a Muslim as America's president because Islam is 'inconsistent' with the U.S. Constitution.

Trump will be the GOP nominee.
Any one who thinks any one else is going to come close is delusional.
That won’t change no matter what Jeb does to try to prop up his anemic poll numbers.
Jeb has essentially zero rank and file support.
And his grand plan of winning the R nomination with Democrat crossovers is imploding fast as Hillary fails and a real primary contest on the D side develops.
I was just thinking that this AM-— who can rise up now to overtake the Trump? I dont see anyone doing that plus Trump is getting some Dem crossover votes to boot.

And he will beat Hillary, Bern, or crazy Uncle Joe like a dirty rug.
I pray that Trumps current support turns into actual votes. I do not trust the American voters!

We dont trust the American voting machines— or those who manipulate them— when it comes to that I hope Trump puts them all on warning alert for consequences for voter fraud tinkering.

Looking at the questioners he had at his last town hall, these don’t seem like the kind of people who can be relied upon to register in advance and find the polls.
He doesn’t have to be evangelical— just pro_Jehovah God and pro- christian will do. To this he admits such... Trump is no saint but he’s no devil either.... Look who we got stuck with for 8 years?
I agree with you. Trump is probabaly the only person who will really fight voter fraud. The others always cave.
A month before the caucuses open, Rubio will announce that he’s cut a deal with Carson for Carson to be his v.p.
Trump and Cruz will be forced to make a deal to try and compete.
That just makes him look Viking. His mothers ancestors were Vikings.
I don’t see Dr. Carson agreeing to play second fiddle to a certified putz. He has more talent and integrity than that.
