Last week, Governor John Hickenlooper announced a $100 million plan to make Colorado the best state for biking.

Of the total $100 million, about 70 percent will come from CDOT

Gov. Chickenpoop is making Slow Joe look smarter by the day!
Yeah.....great ideas......tax, regulate, and spend!
I guess you don’t ride a bike or even recreate on one either.
Bikes are not cars in case you haven’t noticed.
I am all for autos and the benefits they bring. But bicyles have benefits too. And auto centric perspectives are limited in scope and application of auto bicycle integration.
Conservation of momentum is very, very important for a bicycle. Next time you see a cyclist......think about the cyclist and what they may do as they approach a stop meant for a 3000 lb machine controlled with less effort than what is required to bend over and tie one’s own shoe.
What a way to stay healthy.......think about that cyclist next time you pay your health care deductible for your diabetic medication.
Why should that healthy cyclist subsidize you!!!!!!!!
Long-distance cyclist here in Tampa FL. I ride average two hours per day. Longer rides monthly. Mostly on bicycle trails but also on major roadways. Florida has the highest rate of bicyclist fatalities in the nation. Motorists here try very hard not to see you. They ignore the three-foot distance passing rule.
I have rear view mirrors zipping by my elbow at 60 mph all the time. I observe the rules of the road and don’t run red lights or stop signs. And wear a helmet and have dual front and rear blinking LED lights for riding at night with a reflective safety vest.
Yes there are many cyclists who are violators of the law and should be ticketed. I’m not sure about funding for bicycle lanes. I think if a state uses fed dollars for a state highway or road project it is required to provide dedicated bicycle lanes on those projects.
I saw some yahoo on a bike in the middle of the right lane today on a 2 lane road frontage road. There was a BIKE lane to his right but noooo he has to show he can back up traffic. I went around him and I saw him go to the bike lane when a SUV was getting a bit too close to him.
Sorry, no freeloaders, don’t give a damn if it has certain benefits.
And “conservation of momentum” doesn’t give a roadie license to blow through a STOP sign or red light...
Rules are rules...either ALL on the roads obey them or get off.
And even though I owe you absolutely no explanation, I ride a bike...so take your apologist nonsense about how roadies are somehow special, deserving of some kind of special consideration and stick it.
I’m sick and tired of dealing with the nonsense of blowing through STOP signs scaring the mud out of motorists, riding abreast of each other impeding traffic and a myriad of other idiotic behaviors I see almost daily.
Boneheads and jerks abound in both camps. I ride as far to the right as I can (sometimes glass/trash/etc that I don’t want to hit at 20mph makes me go to the white line). Don’t categorize all cyclists by one yahoo in the people republic of Minnesota.
(this reply dedicated to all those red-state FReepers who constantly take cheap shots at us CA FReepers as if we were all liberals like all those liberal metro-sexuals in our over-populate blue zones)
And where are the road bikes?
You can’t be “free from tyranny!” You’ve drunk every drop of their mind ruining socialistic coolaid! You musta been in that newsreel I saw in the 60’s of cone hat chinese in their commonist P.J.’s, peddling their a$$e$ all over Bejing!!! Get help ASAP!!! Either that or quit smokin that bad batch of weed!!!
“Dickenlicker”
That is *so* much funnier than Lickenhooper.
We played golf at Kierland last year at Christmas. They had modified bicycles, particularly the tires, and attached a rack for your golf bag so that you could get around all over the course with a bike instead of a cart. Really, really hard to adjust. In one foursome there was a guy on a Segway pulling his bag behind him on a cart, a gal on a bike and two guys in a cart. ‘Twas a real hoot.
The issue is bicycling, not biking.
“Bike lanes should be toll roads.”
For some reason that made me think of the toll booth scene in Blazing Saddles.
That idea has real possibilities.
Ban cars - instant safe bike lanes...
There actually are studded snow tires for bicycles. Pretty expensive, though.
Good ol’ Governor Chickenpoofter. Is there anything he can’t f-— up?
“Aw, somebody’s gotta ride back and get a sh!tload of dimes!”
Boulder is already psychotic about it, and every other town I've ever visited had more cyclists than anywhere else that I have been.
Struck me as a funny scene; maybe not.
Places like Boulder like to steal our gasoline tax dollars, build roads for cars, then close car lanes and put up barriers to block cars for bike use only.
Then, they also block driveways to private homes and prevent customers to access long existing businesses.
