Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) did not back up his fellow Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson when asked about the retired neurosurgeon's comment that Muslims should not be president of the United States.
"You know, the Constitution specifies there shall be no religious test for public office and I am a constitutionalist," Cruz said at a Sunday taping of Iowa Public Television's "Iowa Press," according to the Des Moines Register.
Carson on Sunday morning told NBC's "Meet the Press" that he would "not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation." In an interview with The Hill later on Sunday, Carson stood by his remarks.
"I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country," he told The Hill. "Muslims feel that their religion is very much a part of your public life and what you do as a public official, and thats inconsistent with our principles and our Constitution."
Although Cruz weighed in on Carson's comments, he would not criticize Donald Trump for failing to correct a town hall audience member who said President Obama is a Muslim.
"My view, listen. The presidents faith is between him and God. What Im going to focus on is his public policy record," Cruz said when asked about Trump's comments on "Iowa Press," according to the Des Moines Register.

“So help me God” is not part of the oath. But a Muslim cannot take the oath because the only law is Sharia. A muslim cannot swear to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.
I wonder how far into our government Muslims have already infiltrated.
Dr Carson said “should” not can’t. That makes it a personal belief, however true, not a constitutional one.
It’s not a religion. It’s a world-domination ideology cleverly disguised as a religion.
He is absolutely correct. The sad part is having enough people who would vote him into office. That is the part that is killing this Nation.
Did CARSON EVER SAY he wanted to take away the Constitutional right of a Muslim to run?
It is up to us, the people, to know the Constitution ourselves, and to vet and elect a candidate who knows and follows the US Constitution, isn’t it?
Technically it would be unconstitutional, yes.
But we the people can be vehement about not voting in one of those filthy mohammedans.
It’s funny to watch the left cry about how unPC we are with regard to the Islamic religion while they ignore the fact that Islamics are throwing homosexuals off of roof tops and stoning women to death for offending Allah somehow all because their religion dictates it.
Article VI of the U.S. Constitution --
"...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
Article VI, Section 3, of the Constitution of 1787:
...but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Remember the multiple swearing ins on BHO?
Here’s the problem: They can’t honestly take the oath of office to support the Constitution when they don’t support the Constitution. ALL MUSLIMS whether moderate or extreme seek to impose Sharia Law. That is what their religious/political doctrine mandates. They can’t take the oath... they can’t serve. Period.
Look folks the candidates need to confront what is going on.
No way in hell is the imaginary mistreatment of Muslims a significant issue in America.
This is all part of the leftist plan to stop anyone from talking about our enemies. And to destroy republicans and patriotic Americans.
Listen to these “journalists”arguing and lecturing candidates on what is hate, etc.
It would be unConstitutional to prohibit a National Socialist, or a fascist, or a Communist from running for President in this country. The only requirements, that the person be a “natural-born” citizen, attained at least 35 years of age, and has resided in the US at least 14 years.
Apparently that “natural-born” clause has become pretty elastic, with some grave misunderstanding of just exactly what it means. Born on US soil? Born elsewhere of US citizen parent of parents? Born of non-citizen parents who have no intention of becoming citizens?
Cruz is absolutely correct via the 1st amendment. That said, it does not mean we have to import humanoids bent on cutting our heads off.
Hell, no, a muslim should not be president! Haven’t we learned anything from Obama???
Even though I’m with Trump and Carson technically Ted is right.
Beat me by 25 seconds. I wasted time with the italicization.
