MUSIC FOR CLASSICAL WALLERINIve often programmed the fourth movement of this piece, which is a set of variations on his song The Trout. This scherzo, marked presto, is sheer fun.
At the first performance at the home of merchant Sylvester Paumgartner, Schubert wrote out all the string parts for Sylvesters family to play, but he played the piano part from memory.
