I started listening to a transistor radio in the sometime '60's, and even in Boston, this song was popular

I had no clue what was being said ... or why ... but we liked the funny sounds the guy was singin'

I can still see one of my boyhood friends singing "put the buck, buck, bucket down" while laughing hysterically. I first thought it was one of the novelty songs that were prevalent in those days. It was only later as an adult I discovered it was actually a traditional American folk song.
