OK, I see the “display”. Still looks like a bomb, though.
It's clear to me that the clock was not homemade, and it was not a kit. You can see the display connected to the main board via a ribbon cable, a 9 volt connector for a backup battery, a secondary board that houses the various pushbutton controls for time setting, alarm time setting, etc., and the AC transformer for primary power.
He took the guts out of an existing clock and crudely repackaged it. Not very impressive work of you ask me.
