Promises made should be promises kept.

A government job should be one step above welfare, just like in the old days.

It would reflect the sort of "service" we get from our gruberment servants Masters.

Further, it's absurd to pay "deferred compensation" to employees who "retire" in mid life or before and immediately double dip themselves into competition with civilians who need the income to eat.

I know lots of "retired" gruberment workers in their 50s and early 60s who work for fun, because they're getting a check in the mail, and take the work away from people who need to work to put food on the table.

I’ve seen that opinion expressed here before (that the pensions must be paid), and I understand the sentiment, but what happens when the entity making the promise (a municipality, county, or state) can’t keep the promise? You expect people to keep promises made by previous voters, but what is happening in NJ, NY, and CA is that new generations (who never made those promises) and employers are fleeing rather than being forced to fund them. The illegal aliens and welfare populations being left behind have no intention of paying for those pensions (or anything else, for that matter).

Who pays for them then?

You all bought the LIE and voted for the crooks who promised the world, with no intention of ever providing for it.

I agree. However, the crooks are not the employees. They are politicians.

Is it ok to break contracts and covenants because we have politicians and justices criminally circumventing the Constitution?

Two wrongs do not make a right.

“Promises made should be promises kept.”

Let’s start with the promises made with the founding of the country before lecturing us about the “promise” of folks taking other peoples hard work with the government as the intermediary.

I don’t think SS, federal, and military pensions especially as presently lavished would survive a Constitutional assessment of “promises”, do you?

“Why should people who don’t even have pensions of their own be required to fund YOUR pension just because you are a government employee/official?”

Indeed. Let the people who pay the bills fund their own pensions with money they would have to give to others, simply because they work for “the government”.

“Our anger is misguided when we see employees and pensioners as the bad guys.”

The problem, friend, is that there is nothing that the government check recipients would NOT do to the people that pay for them in order to keep their benefits.

Not only are they the bad guys, but they are the people that will - when it comes to it (we’re closer every day) do whatever they can, including demagoguery, oppression, tyranny, and execution of their fellow Americans so they can enjoy “their” pensions and other perks of government hegemony over the serfs that pay the bills.

In other words, you may think they aren’t your enemy - but how many have you seen object to the evolution of the system we have now? Not one.
