In what kind of insane government does the minority win?

For this agreement with Iran, they put in place a half assed approval process, in which there will not be a 2/3 Senate vote of approval, as required by the Constitution to approve a treaty.

Instead, they set it up so that Congress would have to pass a bill disapproving of it, which then would be vetoed by Obama, and then require a 2/3 vote to override the veto.

The net effect is that the Republicans who control Congress, set this up so that Obama would need only 1/3 support plus 1 vote in Congress, to sustain a veto of disapproval passed by Congress.

I still don’t get how this is legal. Instead of a 2/3 affirmative Senate vote for a treaty, the Republicans set this up so that only a 1/3 plus 1 vote to sustain a veto of a disapproval vote approves this agreement.

The gist of the US Constitution requires a supermajority to ram treaties down our throats. It now seems that it takes a supermajority to stop one.

This country is doomed.
