Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is now tearing into one of the rivals he long declined to criticize: retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.
In a CNN interview on Thursday, the real-estate magnate attacked Carson's religiosity, persona, qualifications for the presidency, views on abortion and even his medical record.
"He was a doctor, perhaps an OK doctor, by the way. You should check that out too. We're not talking about a great [doctor]. He was an OK doctor," Trump said.
As a doctor, Carson drew national attention at John Hopkins "by conducting a succession of operations that had never been performed successfully," according to The New York Times, "most famously planning and managing the first separation of conjoined twins connected through major blood vessels in the brain."
Trump said he was criticizing Carson because the retired brain surgeon took a shot at him the day before. CNN reported that Carson was asked at an event how he was different from Trump, and he responded by comparing their faith in God.
"Probably the biggest thing I've realized where my success has come from and I don't in anyway deny my faith in God," replied Carson, a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church. "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life, and that's a very big part of who I am. I don't get that impression with him."
Some political observers have suggested that Trump could struggle to win over evangelical voters because of his casual public approach to his own religion. For example, Trump has said he doesn't seek forgiveness from God and referred to Holy Communion as eating "my little cracker" and drinking "my little wine."

Good try CW, but just an OK try. I don’t think you’re going to convince many of us that still support Trump’s effort to kill PC and to melt the heavy wax that has built-up in, around, and through our body politic. The game is rough and tumble and Trump responds unapologetically.
Carson apparently had a number of malpractice suits and settlements—though about average for the number of surgeries he performed.

Carson is a one of the most boring speakers in the world. Slow, with a voice that sounds like Wheezer in the old Little Rascal shorts. He did get off a few good jokes at the last debate so I’ll give him that.
Give me Cruz or Trump any day.
Trump’s faith includes mocking the faithfulness of others and collecting trophy wives. He’s big on the foreign ones, too.
Actually Carson was a brilliant surgeon so why is Trump doing this?
As far as running mate, he would not help with the black vote because blacks do not like conservatives—black or white. Reagan only received 14% of the black vote I believe.
Criticizing Florina’s face and now Carson—not good.
Although we MAY be seeing a media in OUR pocket for a change
Interesting times we live in
Trump is quickly becoming a real pain in the a$$!
Would have been a crew of 20 great individuals then. Not 20 OK ones.
It was a team of 70 Johns Hopkins doctors, nurses and technicians. He was the team leader.
Bad move by Carson to wade into that water.
“and as a running mate hed make you virtually unbeatable.”
Quite the opposite effect for me. Among other things, his willingness to get on board the cheap labor express is a deal breaker, not to mention his opinions on 2A issues.
True. If you are proud of being humble, then you are not humble, but proud.
UGH. That just makes him sound so petty.
You probably don’t know that NYers like Trump know everything about doctors. NYers are the most neurotic folks about their health and their idea of a vacation is a two week check up at the Mayo Clinic. Believe me, I know what I’m talking about. I doubt Trump is any different - just look at those teeth - he must have them cleaned by an oral surgeon twice a week. No dentist is good enough!
That said, I don’t know much about Carson’s career. I’m sure he was a good doctor but Trump is going to hit back if he’s attacked. That’s his way. It’s tough running for prez and the candidates have to be ready for it, including Fiorini and Carson.
I’ve asked you on two previous threads if Trump is the republican nominee will you support him? and there’s been no answer.
This is the third time.
I listened to Carson say that when it comes to religion that Trump is not nearly as humble as Carson himself is.
That is what I call real irony.
So Trump takes a poke back at him. So what?
Don’t you find “everyone should be as humble as me” a little self congratulatory?
There are only two ways to take this comment: 1- DT was attempting sarcastic humor, or 2- his ignorance is starting to trip him up.
I vote #2.
Uncalled for.
You forgot the asterisk after that.
I keep thinking that too. Eventually Trump is going to have to act like an adult or lose support, but it never seems to matter to the Trumpettes.
