Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is now tearing into one of the rivals he long declined to criticize: retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.
In a CNN interview on Thursday, the real-estate magnate attacked Carson's religiosity, persona, qualifications for the presidency, views on abortion and even his medical record.
"He was a doctor, perhaps an OK doctor, by the way. You should check that out too. We're not talking about a great [doctor]. He was an OK doctor," Trump said.
As a doctor, Carson drew national attention at John Hopkins "by conducting a succession of operations that had never been performed successfully," according to The New York Times, "most famously planning and managing the first separation of conjoined twins connected through major blood vessels in the brain."
Trump said he was criticizing Carson because the retired brain surgeon took a shot at him the day before. CNN reported that Carson was asked at an event how he was different from Trump, and he responded by comparing their faith in God.
"Probably the biggest thing I've realized where my success has come from and I don't in anyway deny my faith in God," replied Carson, a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church. "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life, and that's a very big part of who I am. I don't get that impression with him."
Some political observers have suggested that Trump could struggle to win over evangelical voters because of his casual public approach to his own religion. For example, Trump has said he doesn't seek forgiveness from God and referred to Holy Communion as eating "my little cracker" and drinking "my little wine."

I agree. Carson should ad his cure for insomnia to his medical accomplishments. I have never made it through one of his speeches without nodding off.

Carson's response to a question about how he differs from Trump seems very mature to me.
Trump just continues to poke holes in the balloons of resigned acceptance. I’m having SO much fun watching this play out.
“There is no formula for a winning GOP candidate that doesnt include Evangelicals”
Carson is not an evangelical.
Yes. Trump doesn’t believe in private property, he likes imminent domain.
Churchill's command of the language was (perhaps is) unequaled. But I would compare his verbal barbs to Trumps hits as being like Churchill using a watch maker's tools whereas Trump uses a sledgehammer. But, maybe that's what we need.
LOL, good point. Trump’s right about one thing...Carson will never be President. The Democrats would absolutely eviscerate him and he will slink back to his hospital whimpering with his tail between his legs. To Carson, every question on economics and foreign policy is a gotcha question.
Bragging about how humble you are isn’t mature.
“I don’t get that impression with him.”
You evidently missed those last few words Carson said in reference to Trump. Who appointed Carson to be Trump’s judge. How mature is that? I thought religious people recognized whose job that is.
“Carson’s response to a question about how he differs from Trump seems very mature to me.”
I’m guessing that this exchange between the two in going to hurt Carson, not Trump. Carson questioned Trump’s faith and trump blasted him.
I think Trump is our "Flawed man" that the circumstances require.
Brit Hume said he felt that Carson’s observation was not going to play well to the public. This scripture comes to my mind:
2 Corinthians 10:12 - For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
He did not. He cited its importance.
....thats not how humility works
True that. The comment was a political mistake in which Carson blew some of his "kindly man" capital. I hope his wife gives him a good talking to.
LoL!!! It's great comments like this that keep me coming to FR.. :-)
Truth is, every man is flawed. We cannot let fear of our flaws dictate our actions.
The more Trump talks the higher Cruz goes.
Trump wants the equivalent of an amnesty in that he wants to deport them and then bring "the good ones" back in. This was a plan proposed by Pence and Hutchison back in 2007. It was rejected as amnesty then too.
I cannot find the whole CNN interview from this morning anywhere but Trump did say Carson makes Jeb Bush look like the Everready Bunny!
That photo was taken soon after she had survived cancer treatment.
Carson never said he was humble, he merely pointed out its importance.
