Humiliation is one of the most paralyzing emotions. It serves a purpose but arguably not to the point of self-destruction.

Absolutely. But if a person can hold on and ride the pain, it is possible to come out the other side. I know this personally. It is an unfortunate choice. At that point he was not in his right mind.
