Huckabee Aide Reportedly Blocked Ted Cruz from Speaking to Kim Davis Crowd
Mediate ^ | 9/8/15 | A.Kirrell

Posted on 09/08/2015 3:46:52 PM PDT by VinL

Among the Republican presidential candidates, Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz have stood out as the two most ardent defenders of Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, who was recently jailed after refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses in her jurisdiction. The two conservatives made a point to travel down to the Carter County Detention Center on Tuesday to join protesters in support of Davis, but the plans changed slightly when a judge ordered her immediate release.

And then comes the following doozy from the New York Times write-up of this afternoon’s Kim Davis Release Extravaganza (emphasis ours):

"The rally Tuesday had been scheduled before it was known whether Ms. Davis would be released. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, also a Republican presidential contender, made an appearance, but it was Mr. Huckabee, a former Baptist pastor, who grabbed the political spotlight.

When Senator Cruz exited the jail a throng of journalists beckoned him toward their microphones, but an aide to Mr. Huckabee blocked the path of Mr. Cruz, who appeared incredulous."

You must be shocked, dear reader, to learn that Huckabee planned to hog the Davis-induced political spotlight all for himself. Why else would he make such a low-key statement like “I’m willing to go to jail in her place”?

Cruz ended up wading into the crowd to chat with the folks. Far more impressive in my book.

"Weak my ass. Cruz, along with one or two others, is the only republican who's stood against the GOPe leadership.

On the other hand, I guess he could've karate chopped his way to the microphone."

LOL, yes, I guess that's what a few of the concerned folks think should have happened. It's unrealistic.

I have a feeling this isn't finished, as the saying goes.

Something is definitely bugging lewis. He hisses like Dracula when the subject is Ted Cruz.

I’d like to see Cruz or Trump call Huckabee out on his true intentions.

Doesn't Cruz have any security people working for him?

That might happen. I’m glad the whole thing was caught on video.

I’ve never been a Huckabee fan, but I didn’t know he was such a sneaky operator.

Did he get all those tats while he was in jail?

That looks more like a hosepipe/Cruz supporter's wet dream than what I would want my President to look like...

If you think 4 to 8 % in the polls is fun, post some more of them.

We ultimately have Ted Cruz to thank for the growing movement for states to impose their own sanctions on Iran.

Atheist that you are, I understand why Cruz gets under your skin so easily.
I'm not an atheist and Cruz is only a saint in your mind.

Judging by your tone of "Atheist that you are" you must be a holier than thou hypocrite...or a bigot.

I acknowledge that Huck was on top of this from the get-go. He set up the event. He promoted it.

He did well until he got to the offer to Kim Davis to have the authorities ‘throw me in jail instead’. Either he didn’t say it well, or it fell flat, or something. It just didn’t ring real.

Rather than do that again, for he said it just as poorly in the first meeting with the press, he would have been well-advised to put ANYONE on rather than to toss that dud out there.

Even giving air time to Cruz would have been better.

Cruz did get to meet with Kim Davis. Once Ted figured out what Huck was pulling, he probably figured a literal fight over the microphone was not good campaign optics. In fact, if someone wanted to set Ted up for an embarrassing moment, that would have been a good way to do it. Who knows? My dad always taught me, discretion is the better part of valor.

Peace,

SR

That would make them look small and petty. Huckabee is a nobody going nowhere. Both Cruz and Trump have nothing to worry about in that regards. He is no threat to either of them.

I find it pretty humorous that some people think Ted should have taken a poke at this guy and start some kind of street brawl on camera. Wouldn’t the media have had a field day with that?
