Well, there isn't any way that you're going to convince me that Lincoln didn't oppose slavery. I know he did. But, you're not going to hear me say that he didn't deny that he planned to end it. He did deny that. The "secessionists" didn't believe him. Who was right about that fine point? I don't know. I suspect he wanted to end slavery, but that he felt that his first duty was to preserve the territorial integrity of the Union.

But, that's just my guess. We'll never know for sure.

Where do you get the idea that i'm trying to convince you that Lincoln didn't oppose slavery? Of course he opposed slavery. That is not the same thing as saying he was going to do anything about it.

Had the South continued to pay their excessive burden of tariff fees (anywhere from 50% -80% depending on who you ask) then Lincoln was going to keep presiding over a slave owning nation.
