Muslim flight attendant sues after she’s suspended for refusing to serve alcohol

A Muslim flight attendant has filed a religious discrimination lawsuit after being suspended from her job for refusing to serve alcohol to customers because of her religious beliefs.

Charee Stanley, a Michigan employee of ExpressJet who converted to Islam a month after being hired by the company, has enlisted the Council on American Islamic Relations to help her in her efforts, Detroit CBS-TV affiliate WWJ reported.

“We notified ExpressJet Airlines of its obligation under the law to reasonably accommodate Ms. Stanley’s religious beliefs,” her CAIR attorney, Lena Masri, said at a news conference Tuesday. “Instead, ExpressJet chose to violate Ms. Stanley’s constitutional rights, placed her on administrative leave for 12 months, after which her employment may be administratively terminated.”

According to Masri, Stanley had an arrangement with other flight attendants that they would serve alcohol on her flights, but that stopped after another flight attendant filed a complaint against Stanley over her Muslim head scarf.

The executive director of CAIR-Michigan told WWJ News that the organization reached out to the company before filing the lawsuit, but that the response “was not positive.”

“At ExpressJet, we embrace and respect the values of all of our team members,” he said. “We are an equal-opportunity employer with a long history of diversity in our workforce. As Ms. Stanley is an employee, we are not able to comment on her personnel matters.”

“I don’t think that I should have to choose between practicing my religion properly or earning a living,” she told WWJ News. “I shouldn’t have to choose between one or the other, because they’re both important.”

Now let’s see whether liberal groups demand that she find another job, as they have of Kim Davis, the Rowan County, Kentucky, clerk who is in jail after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

That is good stuff. The goose stepping. I’m not German. Certainly not a nazi. You are way off the mark.

My only point is, if you can’t perform a job... No matter what that is, you need to move out. I mentioned in an earlier thread, job descriptions change. People’s faith changes (she has been divorced multiple times but is suddenly VERY Christian).

I’d love to see a gas station that refuses to sell gas to blacks. Owner doesn’t like them. It causes him stress. Let us see how long someone like that last. He truly believes it so we should all let abide by it. Or.... a muslim who doesn’t like to serve alcohol. She should be allowed to not do her job. It’s her religion and her God given right! A person at a sports store who refuses to sell guns. It is against his religion. Move on. Go about your way.

She should not be in jail. I do believe she should be looknig for a job though.

What you’re missing is that the National Socialists are Back and they are operating internationally now. We have every part of the German Bund being stoked in our college campuses and in the occupy movement, and the countless government funded non profit protest groups marching in the streets today demanding justice or there will be no peace. They’re instigating Mobs that run the streets and murder our police officers. Our politicians are betraying us to the central government every day. We are waiting every one of us for the Reichstag Fire to bring the fuhrer to us. But we wont recognize him because his name is not Adolph, instead it’s Barack Hussein!

And we keep repeating the lie that this Elected position being just a Hired Hand. Like as if she was hired off the street to stock shelves at the Walmart. I guess you keep going back to that I suppose because your having trouble reconciling the idea that you can’t Fire someone who’s elected.

And your personal attack on her faith is just weak. Really made me just want to stop reading. I mean, are you really going to cast the first stone or am I? What kind of hypocrite would that make of us then?

The lady is a democrat so in a lot of ways she gets what she deserves. But that being said she’s an elected county clerk. That is a position of some responsibility and accountability to her constituents. Her constituents should hold her accountable at election time. And it bothers me that conservatives minimize and overlook this and keep talking about her as if she was hired as a mcdonalds burger flipper. She’s an Elected Official and it’s Not the same. She may be a Low Level elected official but she is Elected Nevertheless.

And from my perspective she’s upholding the constitution of the united states as she swore to do when she was elected. Certainly she’s doing a better job of that than Bronko Bama is. And I hope that despite her judgement error of being a democrat, you might think so too.
