Donald Trump slammed conservative broadcaster Hugh Hewitt as a "third rate radio announcer" on Friday, one day after an interview with Hewitt exposed major gaps in Trump's foreign policy knowledge.
"It was like gotcha, gotcha," Trump said on MSNBC's Morning Joe. "Every question was do I know this one and that one? It was like he worked hard on that."
On Thursday, Hewitt asked Trump on his radio program about Quds Force commander Ghasem Soleimani. Trump responded an his oft-repeated line about how Kurds have been "mistreated."
"Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you said Kurds," he added when corrected.
But Trump quickly pivoted to slamming Hewitt for asking "gotcha questions" after the radio host suggested that the commander-in-chief should have an in-depth knowledge of players on the world stage.

At some point we are going to have to deal with robed federal gods dictating to us how we are going to live.
It’s high time to remove their jurisdiction over a great many things.
Trump is going to have to skillfully handle these kind of questions whether he knows the answers or not. Yuuuge Hewitt’s questions were far more pertinent than Megyn bimbo’s gutter ‘gotchya’ attempt.
He wasn’t prepared for a review of foreign leader names.
He should have said so.
What’s The Donald drinking there—Coke or Iced Tea?
Ohhhs Noooes!!!! What are we gonna dooooo!!!! He is terrible!!!! Im gonna have to pick someone else until the media gives them a gotcha question!! Ohh Nooe!!!!
Asking tough questions of a presidential candidate is not a “dirty trick.”
Trump isn’t prepared for the office; he came off sounding clueless. And true to form, his response is to act like a child.
You seem to be going after Trump on every thread now. This is confusing behavior since you claimed to be for Trump. Very odd indeed. Why, it’s almost as if you’re full of it.
He picks a GOP candidate early (author of A Mormon in the White House) and pimps his candidate on his show during the entire primary process. Trump is not his candidate.
I’ve never heard Mark Levin ask questions to any candidate of such a specific nature as that one asked by Hewitt.
Never.
It was most definitely a gotcha question, and yes it was a dirty trick.
Don't know who he's pushing this year because I haven't listened to his show for years.
Check my posting history. It appears that maybe you signed up to Troll for Trump. Your posting history is razor thin and you have the gall to call me a Troll?
Trump is taking positions right now that are antithetical to the purpose of Free Republic, particularly his failure to even pretend to be a defender of Christian principles, traditional marriage and the Constitution.
He is a man. Men are by nature in opposition to God. Trump appears to be giving into his nature and surrendering on conservative principles.
I’ve been called a Troll for criticizing Cruz’s positions on Free Trade and immigration and for voting for the Former Amendment.
Trump appears to be letting his liberal inclinations come to the surface. If I am a troll for pointing that out then you are an idiot for ignoring it.
PANTHER WHIZZ Ale...Obies Favorite!
When was the last time they asked tough questions of Hillary?
“He’s starting to act and sound A LOT like Obama.”
Yes he is and I don’t think it’s by accident, which is one of the reasons I don’t trust him.
Hewitt is an establishment Repub to the core.
No, he did not. Rush just played a clip of his answer, and it was good. A president surrounds himself with good advisers who will school him on some of these things. Your opinion - is just that - your opinion. I doubt that your candidate knows all the answers either - none of them do - and none of them have all the answers to the problems our country faces. That’s why there is safety in a multitude of counselors.
I would agree that Hugh Hewitt is a third rate radio announcer. Playing the "gotcha" game with loaded dice does not endear him to anyone. It only takes away time that could have been spent on important pressing issues of the times.
Why try to embarrass a world leader because he does not know the name of every questionable player on the world stage? Why give obscure "leaders" such great press? What does that do?
"This shoot the messenger strategy is going to wear thin pretty soon.Eventually Trump is going to have to start giving answers to though questions.
His answers on gay marriage and Kim Davis were wholly unsatisfying. Hes tough on immigration with his mouth, but his the Supreme Court has spoken answers on gay marriage make me question whether he would be willing to actually fight for any conservative position, including abortion and immigration."
Ah, so you want answers to questions that will not even cross his desk? His "addressing" them will make you somehow feel better I guess? Getting elected this cycle will not leave a lot of free time for esoteric items that are not in the Presidential purview any longer. Abortion and Homo Marriage do amount to "gotcha" setups since they are no longer in the President's hands, well unless you imagine him writing executive orders, like the last guy.
How about we let him ( or whoever ) concentrate on the five or six huge issue like Jobs, Taxes, Military, Vets, Illegal Aliens, Trade. That's the way to get elected and re-elected, well at least for (R)epublicans. (D)ummycrats have an advantage obviously.
What you seem to want in a President is a mirror who thinks and talks like us. But we are quite literally at the end of the line here. There's no more time for screwing around. Elections are no longer going to be real, they will be just for show once they have several million more votes to lock it up forever, or, when they turn Texas "blue". Then it is done.
The President is not a superhero that can save the day for most of our issues, especially Abortion and now Homo marriage. What can he do? Even though I'm to the "right" of most everyone here on these issues, I cannot for the life of me understand how this comes up in the context of the President. It would make perfect sense for trolls to bring it up to either embarrass the candidate or cause disruption among his supporters. But it is illogical for us.
As far as Hugh, and the gotchas. You know, the last candidate that I can remember who had all the answers to these questions was John F'n Kerry. And he *lost* by 3 million votes. What Trump should have said when asked about Hamas or Hezbollah ...
"Hugh, don't concern yourself with the difference between poop and diarrhea. As President the only thing I will need to know is where they are, so I can flush the damn toilet once and for all."
Use similar answers for other gotcha questions. Stay out of the details because that is exactly what they are looking for. Everything said here gets rolled into (D)ummycrat campaign ads next fall. Why we argue about this same exact trap every four years is beyond me.
