Donald Trump on Kim Davis case: ‘The Supreme Court has ruled’
Washington Times ^ | 09/04/2015 | David Sherfinski

Bottom line, host Joe Scarborough said, is that if Supreme Court makes a decision, that’s the law of land, right?

“You have to go with it,” Mr. Trump said. “The decision’s been made, and that is the law of the land.”

“She can take a pass and let somebody else in the office do it in terms of religious, so you know, it’s a very … tough situation, but we are a nation, as I said yesterday, we’re a nation of laws,” he said. “And I was talking about borders and I was talking about other things, but you know, it applies to this, also, and the Supreme Court has ruled."

I just think gov’t is seperate from an individual’s religious beliefs. That doesn’t apply just to Christensen.

The bottom line here is that this woman's religion disqualifies her from holding public office. She doesn't not belong to a government approved religion. If she did, she wouldn't believe what the government says she should believe so that she can keep her job.

Ideally, the government would have stayed implementation of anything until a new law could have been written that did not require someone to violate their religious beliefs.

As it is, because they have forced this forward, they have no active marriage law under which to marry anyone or to punish anyone.

I think most of these people are just Trump haters.
Trump is the only that can beat Hillary or Sanders.

"Unlike far too many, I saw through the thin veneer of Trumps campaign "conservativism"...his answers on life, religion, and second amendment issues are very indicative of his lack of character and real backbone. He doesn't have a core that is not absorbed by any cause other than himself."

Well said.

I'm beginning to think these rude new signups are being sent over by Trump's campaign. They have about as much charm as Trump himself.

There was no new law, Trump. The Supremes cannot make law.

You are right. From what I read, she had to sign off on all licenses so she couldn’t just let someone else do it, so I don’t know what the solution is since the central gov’t nullified the state’s laws.

Naaah.
The same old GOPe types we saw back during the Rudy Guliani campaign and the Ron Paultard invasion, and every election year ever.
Election runups bring them out of the woodwork.
They come bubbling, frothing, foaming, and drooling from under their rocks.
Though this year they have an interesting trick, they had idiots like tnmouth and gonesalt going out of their way to divide people.

Well, their mommas need to take them back and raise them again, because they’re badly in need of some manners.

You don’t come busting into anyplace like a jerk and expect good results.

I am absolutely excited about Trump, he is so fast on his feet, very likable very very funny and very smart, hey he went to that famous business school/

But I still cringe and am saddened every time I am reminded that he really does not go to bed at night concerned about the things of God...abortion gay marriage etc

I could be very happy if he would just assure people that if elected he will appoint the true Conservative judges etc

He has only touched on it. When I hear him saying stuff like I may talk to the party about adding exceptions to abortion to the party platform,,,etc

He has NOT made it 150% crystal clear what he will do on these most important issues.

Would love him to make some promises on these issues. I dont think this is too much to ask.

Hey Jeb and his pacs are going to spend millions reminding people about how pro abortion he once was etc, he does not give the impression that he goes to bed weeping about the unborn.

IF a muslim applied for a job as a pork inspector or on the alcohol control board, he would KNOW what is expected going in. Any refusal would be grounds for dismissal
Very true. The case of the Muzzie truck driver who sued Star Transportation for failing to make reasonable accommodations bend over backwards and kiss his a** notwithstanding. Similarly, while many jobs provide reasonable accommodations for Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc. to allow time off for religious observances, there are jobs, such as in health care and law enforcement, where you're expected to report for work no matter what. Prospective employees are made aware of this fact of life before they accept such positions.

Trump will get a Constitutional scholar to educate him on the ways laws are enacted, probably fan Mark Levin. He’ll then say Kim Davis has been persecuted for her faith and he thinks it’s wrong and in his administration religious persecution will be a thing of the past. Trump is a man of the people, has the people’s ear and is a quick learner.

Worth passing on. You said:

The Supreme Court decision did not change Kentucky law, it voided it. The LAW in Kentucky regarding marriage is that in order to get a marriage license the applicant must be two adults of the opposite sex who are not immediately blood related. The Kentucky statute that authorizes the county clerk to issue marriage licenses to anyone does not authorize her to issue a license to same sex couples. If the Supreme Court determined that the Kentucky statute was unconstitutional, then the county clerk cannot issue any marriage license at all. She isn’t. She is currently obeying the law by not issuing licenses because she currently has no authority to do so.

Your position is one that gives the Supreme Court LEGISLATIVE POWER which it does not have. Forcing this clerk to issue marriage licenses is an unconstitutional act. The court has no power to require a county clerk to violate an existing Kentucky Statute and if the statute is void, then it has no power to make up some statute that requires the state to issue marriage licenses in accordance with a void statute.

I get pretty sick and tired of people on this forum saying that this clerk needs to follow the law or quit her job. SHE’S DOING HER JOB!!!! Her job is to follow the statutory law and right now there isn’t one.

Unless and until KENTUCKY passes a law re-authorizing the issuance of marriage licenses, no clerk in Kentucky should be issuing marriage licenses to anyone.

If you disagree, then show me the currently existing statute that authorizes county clerks in Kentucky to issue marriage licenses to anyone.

The problem is not that the clerk is not following the law, THE COURTS ARE MAKING UP THE LAW. THEY HAVE NO AUTHORITY TO DO SO!!! If anyone should be quitting their jobs, it is the judges!!!!

However, Kim Davis earns $80K annually as the Rowan County Clerk. She obviously disagrees with the terms of the job to which she was elected.

She obviously does not disagree with the terms of the job to which she was elected, which was to issue marriage licenses to people of opposite genders, not to men and monkey, or women and whales or men with men, which Kentucky law forbade.

Is your position that one should never take a job if there is a possibility that it may require you to violate your conscience, due to a change of job description?

but if she finds her assigned duties at variance with her beliefs, she needs to resign or at least delegate the issuance of those licenses.

She wanted to do the latter,

Davis only asked that the Kentucky marriage license forms be changed so her name would not appear on them. She would record any license without her name affixed. Marriage licenses remain in county records permanently. Davis said, “I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage. To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience.” - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3333185/posts?page=77

Meanwhile, it is hardly right or reasonable that everyone much become unemployed due to a change in job description. Do you realize that activists who are cheering the imprisonment of Davis are working to require every employee affirms sodomy, under the banner of diversity and racial equality? Will you just quit when you must basically salute the flag of Sodomy to be a team player?
