he death of an off-duty officer in Texas is being treated as a homicide, police said Tuesday.
Abilene Officer Don Allen was found dead Monday inside his home in Clyde. Investigators haven't released details about the manner of death, but have described it as "clearly suspicious."
"The circumstances behind his death indicate that the probable cause is homicide," police Chief Stan Standridge told reporters. "Aside from that, I'm not going to comment any further. ... I don't want to say anything today that would compromise our ability to hold these people accountable."
Texas Rangers are leading the investigation, with assistance from local police and the FBI.
Investigators haven't yet pinpointed a motive, and are pursuing numerous leads as they try to track down suspects, Standridge said.
Allen was the only person inside the residence when found by family members, Standridge said.
The officer's death comes days after the shooting death of a deputy in Harris County, Texas, which has sparked allegations that targeting of law enforcement officers could be on the rise.

Has his bank accounts and prior arrest records been looked at yet?
I don’t know?
More of Farrakhan’s 10,000 fearless men that he called for who would be willing to kill?
Obama, Holder, Jackson, Sharpton...they are pushing for a civil war. Farrekahn has called for it very directly.
There are too many officers being killed like this for us not to connect the dots.
I like what the Black Sheriff down in Houston said about it.
I said last December that war had been declared against the American police officer, led by some high-profile people. One of them coming out of the White House, another one coming out of the U.S. Department of Justice. And its open season right now, no doubt about it.
He nails it.
The fact that Farrakhan has not been arrested is astounding.
Police chiefs along with D.A.s need to speak up calling for his arrests.
It’s no longer free speech when Farrakhan, like Charlie Manson, encourages his followers to kill cops.
That’s over the line and he should have been arrested on the spot.
Amen to all of theat.
And, OBTW, Sheriff Clark is from Milwaukee, not Houston. My bad on that.
At-home implies much more than a target of opportunity.
I hope the police look closely into all aspects of this case.
Hold off on MLB. There are only about 8 blacks in the high school so not that many in Clyde and can’t believe those would be the Ferguson type.
