“I agree with Trump. Tax increases are not always bad. “

If the scum of the country club sell out then by god they should shell out. No body denies that rich libs should pay more taxes but given the fecklessness, duplicity and out right treachery of our Republican C of C brainiacs obviously they are just as maybe even more deserving then the gentry libs.

Free trade, etc. sounds great on paper. In practice, we have been taken for suckers by virtually every foreign nation. A few tariffs might not be too bad, because they will force foreigners to realize that the US is serious.

Oh, and big companies making huge fortunes in the US damned well ought to pay some reasonable amount of taxes here - and not be able to screw around with the situs of intellectual property to save billions in taxes. Eff them, they are trying to totally starve the middle class to enrich a few shareholders. SOMETIMES you have to get your nose out of the theoretical economics books and look around at what really happens.

An increase in tariffs could be offset by a decrease in income taxes.

There was no income tax for until 1915 or so.

I remain skeptical of Trump's candidacy, but I don't subscribe to the Grover Nordquist view which says that the one and only litmus test for candidates is whether they promise to decrease any and all taxes at all times.

I think that a balanced budget is more important than tax cuts, so if hedge fund managers don't get a tax cut so that the middle class can get one, I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.
