This article gives me an idea. Maybe it’s about time we brought back the legal notion of “corruption of blood.” Your kid commits a violent crime, you do time, too. I would bet this will reduce the crime rate radically.

Deuteronomy 21:18-21New International Version (NIV)

A Rebellious Son

18 If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” 21 Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.

Thank you BwanaNdege; that is the passage I was looking for in reviewing thackney’s comment. The prohibition against corruption of blood only works were you have the family “taking care of business.”

In America today, the family no longer takes care of business. In fact, in too many cases, the family does not exist at all.

My original comment about “corruption of blood” was mostly tongue-in-cheek. It was more of an observation about how the federal government has steadily applied socialist acid to the family, and now look at what it has brought us.
