IOWA: CARSON, TRUMP TIE FOR LEAD
Monmouth University Poll | Monday, August 31, 2015 | PATRICK MURRAY

Posted on 08/31/2015 8:32:30 AM PDT by Hojczyk

When Iowa Republicans are asked who they would support in their local caucus, Ben Carson (23%) and Donald Trump (23%) tie for the top spot. The next tier of candidates includes Carly Fiorina (10%) and Ted Cruz (9%), followed by Scott Walker (7%), Jeb Bush (5%), John Kasich (4%), Marco Rubio (4%), and Rand Paul (3%). The last two Iowa caucus victors, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, each garner 2% of the vote. None of the other six candidates included in the poll register more than 1% support.

“These results mark a significant shake-up in the leaderboard from Monmouth’s Iowa poll taken before the first debate,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute in West Long Branch, NJ. “Carson and, to a lesser extent, Fiorina have surged, while Walker has faded into the background.” In mid-July, Walker was the front runner in Iowa, with Trump and Carson following behind. Since then, Walker’s support has dropped by 15 points, while Carson’s has increased by 15 points and Trump’s by 10 points. Support has also increased for Fiorina by 7 points since Monmouth’s last Iowa poll.

Only 12% of likely Republican caucusgoers say they are completely decided on which candidate they will support in February. Another 42% have a strong preference now but are willing to consider

I’m amazed that Carson is rising in the polls for this reason: all I see on the news is Trump, Trump, and more Trump. Where is Carson getting exposure that leads to his rising poll numbers? I’m very encouraged by it, just can’t figure it out.

I just opened a window with Twitter so I can be the first to see Trump’s tweet calling Carson a weak, pathetic loser.

Only 12% are completely decided in this poll.

. . . as much as I like Carson I absolutely do not see him as president.

He ran the neurosurgery department at one of the top hospitals in the nation. Far more presidential than the street thug who currently serves as figurehead OR his puppeteer.

The President of the United States (on the left) with her dummy.

This morning on Fox they showed a clip of Bobby Jindal being asked what he thinks about Trump being in the lead for the majority of the summer and Jindal said he calls it “silly summer”, and Trump will start to fade. His numbers might fade but Jindal will not be the benefator.

the problem with this, is that they won’t take Trump’s votes. They will take from other establishment candidates.

Wow, as much as I like Carson I absolutely do not see him as president.

I feel the same way. I'm sure he's an excellent person, with a lot of class and integrity. But what specific things has he said he would do as President that we can point to and say 'I like that?'.

As far as I can tell, nothing. I might not like Trump as a person quite as much as Carson. But Trump has said he will do a lot of things that I would like to see the President do, in fact I think it's absolutely necessary to do.

Carson’s getting evangelical support that isn’t enamored with Trump. Traveling in those circles, Carson is a lukewarm top choice with Cruz in the mix with that demo as well.

I n hisbook, “America the Beautiful,” Dr. Carson writes on page 102, “I believe we have taken the moral low road on this issue [i.e., illegal aliens]. Some segments of our economy would virtually collapse without d deport many individuals who are simply seeking a better life for themselthese undocumented workers—we all know that—yet we continue to harass anves and their families. Is there a way to apply logic to this issue and arrive at an intelligent solution?” (Ben Carson Has Presidential Ambitions, But Is Soft On Illegal Aliens; Jerry McConnell; Canada Free Press; 2/4/14)

If you look at Real Clear Politics = Carson was at 18% yesterday, and Trump at 23%. All of a sudden in one day he jumps to 23%? I don’t believe this poll at all. I think they combined his 2nd selection poll to the 18%.

...but I think Trump loses Iowa

Slow down cowboy! We still have about 5 months to go. I'm sure there will be more fluctuation between now and then. But Jebbie being down to 5% and in something like 6th place makes my day.

I think Trump has other plans for Carson

Trump could serve well as President Carson's chief of staff

If Trump decides to spend money in Iowa Trump, wins Iowa. Carson has no money.

Trump has sucked all the oxygen out of the news media and Carson has caught him? Doesn’t bode well for the future.
