Trump has flip-flopped more than Romney. Did you believe Romney had "turned conservative"?
He wasn’t my first choice, but I’m an honest guy, he had me fooled up until the 2nd or 3rd debate, I forget which it was when it just became apparent that he had no intention of fighting to win at all.
Nonetheless I held my nose and voted for him.
I was also completely fooled by Paul Ryan.
I was happy when he was selected for VP.
But now it boils down to the GOP has no one but itself to blame for the rise of Trump.
I got to get some sleep though, I’m up way too late.
This thread has been too much fun. G’nite South40.
To paraphrase Rick Pitino:
Edmund Burke is not coming through that door. George Washington is not coming through that door. President Taft is not coming through that door. President Reagan is not coming through that door. Margaret Thatcher is not coming through that door. Trump is easily the most conservative, pro-USA candidate running that can win. All 17 GOP candidates are each great in their own, but limited, way. But, none of them can dominate the national conversation the way Trump can. None of them can handle the media just waiting to pounce should we nominate a conservative with a political resume only. None of them could be counted on to pull votes from all demographics, a la the legendary Reagan Democrats. He’s going to win.
I understand everyone’s impulse to support the most doctrinaire conservative candidate. Recalling all my proud, but useless NH primary votes these many years, this is the last chance to save the America we all here grew up in. The lefty’s win one more time - it’s all over and we’ll have to find a new place and start all over again. And George Washington isn’t walking through that door I’m afraid.
