I think there is a big difference between people seeking and consulting those who claim to be able to speak with the dead, and some people who have had an experience of being contacted by loved ones who have passed.
There is also the inevitable question, is there indeed life after death when some biblical passages, especially found in Ecclesiastes seem to make the claim that when you’re dead, you’re dead. Christ stated that he that believes in Him shall never die. I’ll believe in Christ before Ecclesiastes. It is my choice.
If no medium is involved, and contact with the dead was not actively sought, it could very well be different. But that rules out seances, which was the original topic.
