Pretenders lead singer claims sexual assault in the 1970s was her own fault because of the way she was dressed
Women who walk around drunk and provocatively dressed should expect to be sexually assaulted, Chrissie Hynde, the lead singer of the Pretenders, has suggested. The former chart topper claimed in a Sunday newspaper interview that scantily clad women were likely to entice a rapist and that it is their fault if they are attacked.
She discloses in a new memoir how she was abducted and sexually assaulted by a motorcycle gang in Ohio in the early 1970s but concludes it was all my doing because of the way she was dressed and the fact that she was under the influence of drugs.
She also claimed that pop stars who call themselves feminists but use their sex appeal to sell records were effectively just prostitutes.

Amazing how age sometimes brings wisdom, eh?
Better late than never. Loved their 80’s music.
There’s a fundamental distinct, in my mind, between actions that are unwise and actions that are criminal.
Getting drunk and dressing provocatively may be unwise, but it is not criminal.
Well it may be unwise to walk around scantily clad and drunk. I’d go as far to say that its unwise to walk around modestly clad and drunk. But its not kidnapping and felony sexual assault. Now that’s a crime. The people at fault in Chrissie’s abduction and rape are the perps.
I always thought she looked too much like Alice Cooper to be attractive.
I don’t think the author was equating the two.
One is unwise. One is criminal.
She wasn’t a criminal through her actions, the perpetrators were.
I’m glad when women stand up and admit that dressing provocatively and losing control of themselves through overuse of alcohol, or drug use, is unwise.
Feminazi howling will begin in 3, 2, 1......
Stevie Nicks learned this lesson the hard way, too.
That’s Bruce Jenner baby!
“Middle of the Road” always gets my heart pumping.
Old story about Chrissie’s is that when she told the other members of The Pretenders that she was pregnant they were shocked. They didn’t know she was a woman!
Above all, I think the helplessness brought on by alcohol and/or drugs does more to put women and men in danger than people care to admit. Police and criminals say that crimes of opportunity occur when the potential victim is not paying attention to her surroundings.
Most of the women I see dressed immodestly just look ugly and slovenly to me. Of course, there’s no accounting for men ... maybe short-shorts and a ripped tank top on a 250 lb. tattooed female is just the ticket.
The only lesson to be learned is that its a class one felony to rape a woman no matter what she is or is not wearing. Nobody deserves to get abducted and raped.
It might be unwise for a plump city boy to be walking around lookin purty in the woods near Tallulah Gorge, GA too but if he gets raped its still the fault of the toothless perps. :-)
Yes, it is amazing but not so surprising. So many others finally grew up as well; Bob Dylan, John Lennon (was finally coming around), Eric Clapton, The Beach Boys, Johnny Ramone, Alice Cooper, Prince, Gloria Estefan, Gene Simmons, Meat Loaf, Dave Mustaine, Michale Graves, Neil Peart, Steve Tyler, Joe Perry, and on and on and on ......
