“I don’t see how McGovern can lose. Everyone I know is voting for him, no one for Nixon”. Pauline Kael, 1972, movie critic for the defunct “news” magazine, Newsweek. Joan Walsh lives in a bubble, just like she did; probably on the Upper West Side of New York, I’ll bet her kids went to expensive lily white private schools, that she never shops at a chain grocery store, that no one in her family has served in the military since WW2, and that she doesn’t have (and wouldn’t have) a single friend who calls himself or herself “conservative”.
If I were at my country club with c.c. Republicans and mentioned that I was supporting a Democrat they’d look at me funny and say how interesting.
If I were at a wine and cheese gathering in Berkeley or the Upper West Side and said I was going to support a conservative candidate they would be outraged.
Liberals, who think of themselves as super tolerant, are the most intolerant of all.
^ THAT needs to be said over and over again.
