Immigration shift shows India, China outpacing Mexico (AP context abuse)

Siddharth Jaganath wanted to return to India after earning his master’s degree at Texas’ Southern Methodist University. Instead, he built a new life in the U.S. over a decade, becoming a manager at a communications technology company and starting a family in the Dallas suburb of Plano.

“You start growing your roots and eventually end up staying here,” the 37-year-old said.

His path is an increasingly common one: Immigrants from China and India, many with student or work visas, have overtaken Mexicans as the largest groups coming into the U.S., according to U.S. Census Bureau research released in May. The shift has been building for more than a decade and experts say it’s bringing more highly skilled immigrants here. And some Republican presidential candidates have proposed a heavier focus on employment-based migration, which could accelerate traditionally slow changes to the country’s ever-evolving face of immigration. …

So you want to live in a totally socialist country where you have no right to even own property? yes because that is what you are shilling for.

Legal immigrants tend to be entrepreneurs - they actually practice capitalism. If the US is turning to socialism, look to our education system and popular media, which conservatives have surrendered to the Left without a fight. Let your children be indoctrinated by hard-core unionists from K-12 (and then on to the socialist wonderlands of our university systems), and let them spend their lives watching pablum created for them by Hollywood liberals and you have the reason America elects someone like Obama.

Legal immigrants from Asia are too small a minority in the US to even budge the nation toward socialism even if they wanted to. Think before you type, please.

It's not name calling but a correct analysis since you can't see the points I made that immigrants from Asia and elsewhere vote for socialism . so you advocate immigration from Asia then you are for socialism. but you have no counter argument or rebuttal just ridiculous insults which are name calling .and you don't see the hypocrisy

. the 2000 election was decided by a few votes. ditto for Obama care etc. How may immigrants legal and illegal do we have in the USA form Asia , many millions as this article shows

The fact is all immigrants vote for democrats no matter where they are from and that leads to socialism . Ann coulter made the point that if weren't for a few thousand somali immimgrants voting for Al Franken in Minnesota then the democrats wouldn't have had the votes to pass Obama care. and everyone here knows that is socialism.

but it's not just somalis. it's all immigrants vote at much higher percentage for democrats.

so you if want socialism/tyranny then keep advocating for more immigrants.

I actually like owning property and having individual liberty to make my own choices in what I buy so I am against socialism.

it's not racism or the other names the left call us. it's that we want to live our lives how we see fit not how some gov bureaucrat decides we should and socialism doesn't even work so there is no opportunity to make a living in socialism

I advocate responsible, legal immigration. Without it, the US has a negative population growth rate and anyone with eyes can see what that's doing to Japan's economy and future.

As for your last sentence, there's no sense or fact to it. 52% of the startups in Silicon Valley and 25% of the startups across the nation are founded by Asian immigrants according to Forbes - they're entrepreneurs and capitalists, creating jobs and wealth. That's in spite of their relatively tiny numbers - they're better capitalists than home-grown Americans, and there aren't enough of them to influence any vote. If socialism is growing in the US, it's not because of those immigrants, who are as non-socialist in their business practices as it gets. Those are facts. Consider them.

but you have no counter argument or rebuttal just ridiculous insults which are name calling .and you don't see the hypocrisy

We can do it any way you like. You start the name-calling, you'll get it back the same way. That's not hypocrisy, that's getting back what you started dishing out.

The fact is that the Republicans have fielded weak Democrat-lite presidential candidates in the last two election cycles. The GOP establishment is incompetent and foolish, and is too busy buying into the Democrat game-plan of equating illegal immigration with legal immigration to make a real appeal to legal immigrants.

Take a drive around the San Gabriel Valley. Or see how the influx of Northerners has transformed the South. Or consider that over a hundred years since the arrival of significant numbers from Italy we still have a problem with organized crime. This doesn’t mean there are no positives associated with immigration. I am certainly pleased to have Judge Alito on the Supreme Court, my 1/2 Italian grand daughter is the apple of my eye and my Chinese wife and 1/2 Chinese children are a delight. But our country is different now because of previous legal immigration. It is reasonable to assume that further immigration will bring further changes. We should contemplate what those changes might be.

Certainly. The nice thing about legal immigration is that it's subject to control. If we as a people decide to turn down the in-flow for a while, we can and should expect our Congress to enforce that. But right now, I'm in favor of legal immigration from Asia - we have an enormous amount of government dependents, and we need smart, industrious new citizens to help pay the bills now and in the years to come. Too many home-grown Americans expect hand-outs.

I wouldn’t call all of the Soviet spies that came in thanks to FDR all legal in terms of their arrivals, frankly. They’re among the biggest agents of change in DC; Skousen talked quite a bit about them in his book “The Naked Communist”.

I noticed that a lot of left-wing websites are badmouthing the H1B visa program. That of course does not mean that the right ought to embrace it automatically; quite often, the left’s own machinations spread the collateral damage far and wide.

What you are describing is superficial assimilation. It means nothing.

Cultural assimilation is how every immigrant community which has come to the US has become part of America. I don't believe there's anything superficial about it - these people and their kids are becoming part of the American fabric just as quickly as the Irish and Italians once did, and they bring something worthwhile to the table in terms of prioritizing education and hard work. I'm far more skeptical about communities which adhere to some strong separatist ideology, like Islam.
