Trump: I’m winning because Americans are 'tired of being the patsies'
The Hill ^ | August 29,2015 | By Mark Hensch

Posted on 08/29/2015 12:19:18 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he is leading the GOP race because he represents Americans who have had it with their nation coming up short.

“People in this country are smart,” he told listeners at the National Federation of Republican Assemblies’ 2015 conference in Nashville on Saturday.

“We’re tired of being the patsies for everyone,” Trump said.

“There is a big, big, growing-by-leaps-and-bounds silent majority out there. [The 2016 race] is going to be an election based on competence.”

Trump argued he is surging in national polls because he represents the Tea Party supporters ignored by Democrats and betrayed by Republicans.

“I love the Tea Party,” Trump said. “You people have not been treated fairly. These are people who work hard and love their country, and then get beat up by the media. It’s disgusting.”

“At least I have a microphone and can fight back,” the outspoken billionaire added.

Trump indicated he envisions a much wider base for his campaign than traditional Republican voters next election cycle.

“You don’t know how big you are,” he told listeners. “The Tea Party has tremendous power. It’s Democrats, it is evangelicals, it is everybody.”

The New York business mogul also vowed he would not succumb to the prestige and power of Washington’s political establishment if he wins in 2016.

“They go to Washington and they get weak,” Trump said of Democrats and Republicans alike. “They get there and they see these beautiful, vaulted ceilings and they say, ‘Honey, I’ve made it.’ That won’t happen to me, I promise.”

Trump also said he intends on saving taxpayer dollars by focusing his energy on the nation’s capital if elected next year.

And as to cabinet picks, Trump has dropped a LOT of "probable" names.

And you believe any of that? He also dropped the name Oprah. Tell me you aren't as gullible as you seem.

I'm a big fan of Cruz too. I would prefer Cruz to Trump, even though Cruz has come out in favor of more H1B visas and appears to be open to a "path to citizenship" for illegals. I would really prefer Cruz if it looked he might win.

I'm saying I won't stay home in the General if Trump gets the nomination, which he just might. My first choice is Scott Walker, second is Cruz, third is Trump, but it's Trump who seems to have the momentum.

also have been an active conservative far longer to boot.

How would you know that? And if you are an active conservative why are you supporting a liberal liar?

Sadly, Cruz isn't catching fire,

LOL!! The primary hasn't even begun yet. You want the media and the GOP to hijack the primary before it even starts? If this were a football game we'f be a Wednesday practice. It';s outrageous that the GOPe and the media can try to finish the primary before it even comes close to starting.

“Why is Trump plan A?”

I don’t think Trump was plan A until very recently, and I think there will be college courses in future still trying to completely answer that question. To me, it seems like he became plan A because there was no one else saying these things that the majority of Americans think and feel, something remarkable in what is supposed to be a country with a government by the people, for the people, of the people. As to why that is so, again, I think there will be college courses still trying to answer that question in coming years.

Why are you convinced he will pull out? He contemplated a run one or more times before. He was exploring one for 2012 but, partly for what he thought was for the good of the party, just got behind Romney. I watched his speech from Mar-a-Lago then, away from all the media frenzy there is now, and was impressed by his reasoning. I’m not sure if I could find it for you to watch. But after watching that, and after Trump has watched what happened over the last few years since that, I don’t see him pulling out of this one. It seems to me he’s fighting like he actually wants to win, far more than most in the field.

I did not say I went there on a regular basis. I went this time to see if your remark was true. I found it wasn’t. I learned to do more research when I was doing genealogy research. When I see other statements that I wonder about the truth of, I go there or other sites to see for myself. Maybe you should do some before making statements. Aren’t you just a wee bit curious to see if what you say is true?

Explain to me any evidence that Trump is a conservative , besides the media claiming he is? He ONLY decided to be a Republican when he realized he could pretend to run in the 2012 primary. He already hijacked one election cycle, why another? He has a track record of doing this.

He is going to drop out, because he doesn't want to be president and he knows that if he ran embarrassing information about him would come out. Do you know anything about Trump's past or his business experience?

The fact is Trump is just using Republicans., And he;s a liberal. No conservative should be supporting him.

Why don’t you do a little research on Trump, instead of just believing what the media tells you?

It will be nothing more than a footnote. Not even as big as Ross Perot.

No, he actually said it again right after he "declared."

Who is Ichan?

You are claiming Trump has been friends with Palin since 2008? Proof? He was a Hillary-supporting, Republican bashing Democrat in 2008.

How about this? If Trump is still in the race at the time of election, November 2016, you donate $50 to Free Republic. If he’s not, I’ll donate the $50 here.

By the way who did Trump support in 2012.

Let’s see the only conservative choices were Bachmann, Cain or Santorum? Am i missing anyone? Certainly you didn’t vote for Newt or Paul?

"Which part don't you understand the idiot or the socialist? Trump has a long track record of supporting socialism. He wants a single payer form of socialized medicine that's worse than ACA. His support for eminent domain/Kelo, which means he has no respect for private property/recognizes no limit to government control. He supports high taxes/punitive taxation. His career was built on big government cronyism. He doesn't respect or even know about the Constitution."

Let's see who is actually the idiot here. So this is what is knocking around your brain ...

Everyone knows that the perfect is the enemy of the good yet here you are dutifully seeking imperfections in a human being. Yet all the ones you are bothered by are simple strawmen that even an elementary school student in civics 101 could recognize as irrelevant. Aren't you also worried about what football and baseball teams he roots for? Or what music he listens to?

On the big three issues, like Reagan, he has offered us nothing worrisome: Jobs/Taxes, Military, Supreme Court. He has made it clear that Jobs will be number one and this will leave little time left for boutique litmus test issues. He has said he will make the Military second to none, and you know our enemies are scared to death and rooting against him because of this. He has said Alito was his idea of a great justice, and that works for me. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Cruz wasn't his first nomination. That would be the most significant appointment since Scalia or Thomas. :-)

Nick, if someone handed you a chemical substance labeled "poison" which was absolutely guaranteed to kill living cells you would quite rightly refuse to take it ... unless of course you had a raging cancer that was on track to kill you anyway. It's time for radical medicine Nick, the patient is dying. Use your head.

By the way, Trump doesn't know the first thing about conservatism. I would love to see him get a quiz on conservative ideology without his staff to give him notes. How embarrassing would that be.

How can you trust him ? He has a history of saying whatever he needs to. He strongly supported Romney in 2012 election and you believe he magically became a conservative?
