I am guessing that the perp has had many conflicts with the law and his mother is used to giving him an alibi, but she couldn’t lie when she heard he was wanted for murder - maybe that was a bit too much for her conscience or more likely she was afraid to be implicated in helping a murderer. I am sure we will hear interviews where she says her “baby” is really a nice man [when he isn’t shooting people in the back] and “the system” is out to get him.

Its usually not possible to charge a family member with harboring a fugitive. If she wasn’t involved beyond opening the door, she’ll walk.
