This is not true.
I believe you have misrepresented what was written.
There are two parts of the quote, one dealing with the past, which only thanks them for a thoughtful gesture and feelings evoked.
“His holiness is grateful for the thoughtful gesture and for the feelings which it evoked”
i.e. thanks for the gift, the gift was a nice thought which I appreciate. A generic form letter response.
The second part expresses hope for the future.
“hoping for an always more fruitful activity in the service of young generations and the spread of genuine human and Christian values”
You can say this to absolutely anyone no matter how monstrous their behavior and ideas and have it be a positive thing.
It’s saying I hope in the future you do a better job serving humanity and Christianity than before.
Which is an equally good thing to say to anyone.
