So at this stage wouldn't it be proper to consider sedition and treason to be patriotic acts?

I would say never to the premise. This is one of those “depends on the meaning of is”, statements. We know the left will never give up using the correct definition to bash patriotic conservatives for something leftists should actually be charged with.
Making the charge stick, and hanging the blastards is the tough part.
